I know there are a few threads about LASIK and diving, but I thought I would start another to find out if there are any surgeons in the Massachusetts area that people would recommend, or NOT recommend.

If there are any comments that should be kept private, please email me at jvasale@aol.com.

Thanks,

Jessica

I had the surgery done 3 years ago here in CT. Overall I'm pleased with the results but before you do it there are some things you should know.

A) My night vision has gone to Hell. Several other people with the surgery say they get a halo affect at night and some will wear glasses at night. I don't but it's an real issue driving on a rainy night.

B) Full recovery will be 90 days some times more. During that time, you'll be wonder what you did to yourself. Don't worry, use the eye drops (wetting agent) It will get better

C) You will wear glasses again. If your like me 40+ Lasic does nothing to prevent the need for reading glasses as you age.

D) Painless, sure. The surgery is but the recovery is not. Pain is not the right word. Discomfort is probably correct.

Be sure to ask your surgeon about these.

I'm often asked the question as to weather I felt it was worth it. I'm on the fence. I did it for vanity reasons. I could see well enough to swim or see the alarm clock and my job is one where glasses are not a problem. I could even dive with out them but
not having glasses (I don't like contacts) is a plus.

Disclaimer: This is my experience your results may differ.

I can't speak to Mass. but I would suggest starting with talking to your own Opthamologist who doesn't have any interest other then your welfare.

I had LASIK performed over 3 years ago and I've been very happy. But it isn't for everyone, and there are some risks to be considered. I have a very successful outcome with almost no side affects. I'm kind of a bad person to talk about with though because it went so good. Talk to your own Dr and decide if your a suitable candidate, who a good surgeon is, and if its worth the risks for you.
