Hey Steve, it was great meeting you and Rob last Saturday at the lake. The water was colder than expected but the vis wasn't as bad. I'm sure glad I had a dry suit to wear tho'.....you guys are TOUGH getting in there with wetsuits! Hope we meet up again sometime.

It was great meeting you all last Saturday. I'll be at Vista Point this weekend and probably next weekend as well. The vis is pretty good there. Definately better than where we were last weekend. But hey, I was able to nav a pretty good square so it was all good. Call on me anytime you want to go diving.

What do you call 6 dives in 2 days? A great weekend!

Phxski and I met Saturday morning and started out at Vista Point but there was a temporary boat dock sitting right over the divesite. We ended up over at Desert Tortoise. Surface temp was 48F and vis was about 5 feet. Along the road, we never found more than 20' of depth but just to the right of the road it drops off and goes dark at about 45'. I'd recommend a dive light. The dives were good though. We met some other divers but I forgot to write down their names. They do hang out here sometimes so guys, I appologise for not getting your names down.
I ended up losing my dive flag but Rudebob found it Sunday morning (thanks Mike).

Sunday was a little warmer than Saturday and the water temp at DT was a few degrees warmer, a balmy 52º, vis was about the same. Rudebob and I did actually see some fish. Later on another friend showed up and we did one dive at DT then relocated to the spillway area. The vis was a little better and we found some depth fairly close to shore. I'm going to start chopping down the cockleburrs though. I'm tired of looking like a pin cushion when I get out and there are forests of those things down there.

Rudebob says that they sometimes will use the vista point area to build temporary docks then tow them to another area. I hope that's true because I would really like to have that area back. I heard that there are some railroad tracks down there at 330º that go forever.

Does anybody know who to call to see if they cleared out that dang boat dock from Vista Point? It's a $6.00 bet to go see. I guess that the Marina controlls that area. I'll try them this week and post their reply.

I'll be at the lake again this Saturday but I'm not sure where yet. Any suggestions?

Steve.

Thanks for the update Steve, we were a bit too bushed from diving in the 80 degree, clear water at the YMCA to make it up Sunday :) Good to know about the temporary dock though, I'd probably call the marina before heading up to save the cash. We're out of town this weekend and then back in the pool with the kids club the week after... man, I'm getting tired of all this warm water diving!

Steve:

Thanks for the invite to come and dive with you Sunday. I was good to get wet and practice skills even if the viz was not the best. Plus I got a chance to try out my new Zeagle Ranger which I really like.

Hopefully things should improve soon as the water level is coming up quickly (we witnessed that in just a few hours). I was told by a pretty reliable source that they will get the water level as high as possible during this time of year and then hold it constant during the fish spawn (beginning next month). This is when the water usually clears up. Makes since and last year we had 30+' feet in March.

Hey all,

I talked to the marina today and they said that the docks they're building at Vista Point will still be there this weekend but will be gone by next weekend. I'm meeting Superclorfli and another guy on Saturday to dive near the DT area (probably the spillway area). I was there last Sunday afternoon and the vis wasn't to bad. you can find 40' pretty close to shore. The bottom is pretty rocky so the silt level isn't to bad. We're planning to do three dives so if you can't make it until later, don't worry. We'll be there most of the day. I can't make it on Sunday.

Four of us met last Saturday (2/16). Superchoriflai, his daughter, Kurt Carmichael and I dove at Beismeyer Pt. Vis was about 5-8 ft; temp at the surface was 47º-48º F; surface elevation was 1688'. We had fun helping Greg's daughter do some science experiments on what the pressure does to containers at depth. We did 2 ata and 3 ata. Met another diver around the end of the day.

I'm looking to go back to Vista Point next Saturday.

Steve.

The docks are still at vista Point. How about we meet at the west enternace on Saturday morning at around 9:00am. We can pick a dive spot then.

Steve.

Kurt and I did two dives on Wednesday 2/20 at Beismeyer Point. Still cold (my gauges showed 53* at the surface and 49* at 70'). Viz was better down to about 30' (still only 6' - 8') but better is better. We hit twilight at about 50' and from there down to 70' it was pretty dark. Good dives though.

We saw a good-sized catfish, around 24", sitting in a rock pile at about 40'.

Spillway was pretty much the same on Saturday--53 at the surface, vis for crap (but that may have had something to do with students standing on the bottom).

I dove desert tortoise area on Sunday (2/24) with Scubasteve and Josh. I thought the viz had improved greatly from two weeks ago. There was a good 10-15' up to 40 feet and 5' - 7' closer to 50'. Had the sun been out it would have been better. Some areas were a little silted up because there were a lot of divers by us-at least 6 different groups ranging from 2 - 9 nine divers (including a big group from Tucson). I guess it is getting that time of year.

Now that the lake is nearly full (11' from full pool) the vis should continue to improve over the next month or two. When the fish come up to spawn in the next month or so, hopefully there will be more to look at. I did find an Akona dive knife in about 15' by DT if anyone may have lost it.
