I've been wishing there were some lakesto dive in around here too. But I wouldn't think about getting into the water at someplace like Newnans. It's trashy above ground, so I'm sure it's worse underwater. And yes, it's VERY shallow.

Uf has their lake, Waughburg. Been a while since I've been there, but maybe there is some diving there? I don't know how deep it is, and I do know there are alligators, because I've canoed by them (I have no fear when I'm in a canoe). If I were to dive anywhere, I'd dive there, becuase there are more people topside who can call for an ambulance when a gator eats me. :) \

Troy and Manatee and there are lots of others like Ginnie. Dive springs. :)

Seeing this thread reminded me of something I was thinking of recently. I wonder if any Govt. entity has a database of lake depths around the state. USGS, NOAA, etc... It would stand to reason that most of the lake depths have been measured and recorded somewhere. I started wondering about that after diving a lake near Lake Placid that had 55 ft. depth and pretty clear water. I know from experience, growing up near Orlando, that most lakes in that area are shallow. There's gotta be some more good divable lakes around the state.

Maybe I can get you to swing over to Orange Grove too ...

But you won't need an ambulance! ;)

Jean, I MIGHT be able to make it to Troy next weekend if I am lucky. My semi- retirement has taken its toll on my bank account and is lasting longer then I hoped. So for now until I can get a job, I am stuck with only doing state parks :D. (gotta pay for the g/f too, ya know )

I'm liveGainesville in would not go in any of the lakes around here. If you just look in lake alice you can see all the gators and they look hungry!

Let me know some time if you want to go to the springs, i try and go at least once a week.

This gator was around Orlando... All bets are off in murky water.

Besides the gators, diving in Lake Alice would likely earn you a visit from Campus Police. They arrested the last guy and he was just swimming. (Fraternity hazing)
