The whole Kingsley thread has got me interested in giving lake diving a try. If you find one that doesn’t look like something out of swamp thing let me know I might want to give it a shot with you guys.

I read that kingsley thread also and thats what got me wanting to do this. I am sure that if Kingsley is divable, then there has got to be some other Florida lake that is divable. I checked out what I could about Newnans lake, It is about 15 minutes away and there is a park there, I will try to ride by and check it out later today or tomarrow.

Oh sure, let's go dive Lake Alice!!! Just make sure to wear your Gator suit (all Buckeyes should steer clear) and get under QUICKLY.

Lake Sheidler up in Gold Head Branch State Park (Keystone Heights) USED to be open to divers, but they closed it. What a pritine and beautiful lake and now you can only LOOK at it.

Most of the lakes in that area are blackwater lakes due to to the tannic acid leached into them by the TREES lining the banks and in the swamps. We call that "derepmet" visibility down here. :D

Having fished and rowed on Newnans lake, I will tell you that the max depth is not much greater than 10' and it is dirty, dirty water.

Lakes aren't all that great to dive. I dive the lakes in Arizona because it's all I have closer than a 6 hour drive. If I had fresh water springs near me, I wouldn't even look twice at the lakes. In fact, I bought a house in Florida last year just to give me an excuse to go more often. :D

One serious suggestion, if diving in the springs: Do not enter the water with a dive light in your possession. Springs = caverns/caves....lights give you the courage to go further than you should.

As a new diving in Jax/N. Fl, you should get cavern certified anyway - it will open up a new vista of safe diving possibilities for you. There's LOTS to see and do here....

Cheers!

go for the gator pool,it will give you something to tell your grandkids about or not.

Yeh I do not have a lot of NE FL lake diving experience but all I do know is do not try Lochloosa. I've been fishing there numerous times and the water is like coffee, very different from Kingsley. Good fishing, but diving...not so much. Hey try listening to Mofro's song Lochloosa, good song and they also have some other worthwhile tunes about Florida's most beautiful places.
