I would like to hear the full story, politics included, so I can make my own decisions.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

In that case, please go to another discussion board. This is not a place for discussing politics...in any country. Marg, SB Senior Moderator

Politics aside, La Perlita is tasty chow but the domestic animals running loose in the restaurant is not something you are likely to see in the US for reasons of health and safety. I just turn a blind eye and order the whole fried fish any way. The food is yummy, the service is mediocre, the music is good and all this is just my opinion.

Seems to me that the political background of La Perlita closing for "health reasons" is a critical component to a decision to eat there or not. Politics as usual issues would not deter me from eating at a favorite restaurant, but verifed sanitary issues probably would. The full story is something you will very, very rarely get in this forum.

I read an article about this last week in Por Esto. The article stated that the "health department" is not part of the municipal government but state or federal and implied that it was a standard inspection that many food service providers go through. They were given a list of items to correct before they can reopen.

Or anywhere else, for that matter. I do not try to influence Cozumel politics by where I choose to spend my money because a) there is no way I could ever know enough about it to be objective, and b) it is none of my business.

Would you visit a place in Austin shut down by the health department?

I neither care nor worry about politics. However, spending my money at a place makes it my business to make sure it passes a health inspection, no matter what the local Boss Tweeds are fighting about.

Not to run this thread around in circles, but if there is some reason to believe the failure to pass the health inspection was bogus, then I would like to know that. If the politics and failure to pass the health inspection have nothing to do with each other, then I will gladly avoid eating there.

If only you knew what went on in A rated restaurants, you'd never eat out again......lol. Sometimes it's good to have ones head in the ground! Especially when ones hungry :)
