I am seriously thinking of enrolling the the 14 week LA County instructor program. I just spoke with the big cheese Tyrone, and had a couple questions he couln't answer. The class costs ~$950 (+ extras I'm sure) and he said that they do a NAUI cross over. Roughly, how much extra does this cost? I was speaking with a PADI instructor and he said it runs almost $2K for PADI... Out of curiosity, is there anyone here that became a PADI instructor and then did the LAC training? What was the differences?

You can also try the other big cheese, Jim McMicken, who I think is the director of UICC. His email is on the LASCUBA website: [Email address removed by request. Contact mccabejc via PM to get it.]

I was i the 2006 LAC UICC class, but I haven't done the cross-overs yet. From what I've heard, the NAUI cross-over is relatively painless, but the PADI one is more expensive and time consuming.

I'll refer your question to someone I know who has done both. I'll know more myself when I actually do it myself.

Jim, hmm I thought I heard Tyrone say he was the overseer of the class. Ill have to send out an email, thanx!

Radinator, thank you.

Tyrone is the LA County Liason. He is not an instructor in the class, and not a diver that I know (I could be wrong on this, but I've never seen him in the water).

Jim is the president of the Underwater Instructors Association, so Jim runs the instructor course. Kevin Liu is the Vice President and therefore runs the Advanced Diver Program (which is about to start up in July - shameless plug).
