Does it come with pizza stains, or is that reserved exclusively for Doria divers?
Down south, don't they eat alot of fried chicken? So maybe its chicken stains instead of pizza stains.

Hmm, after reading this thread and the one on TDS, ive come to a conclusion...

No one (well maybe just Andy) actually believes that singles are indeed SAFER than doubles.

So really most of us agree. And all of us that I know of are actually diving doubles. So, we might not agree w/ everything but were 90% there. Thats really good for any discussion on SB!!!

Rejoice!

JeffG:
...fried chicken...

Mmmm... fried chicken. Now I'm hungry for lunch and I still haven't had time to look up "ad hominem".

Please forgive me for not having enough time to re-read this entire thread to put my reply in the proper context, but I do not see any flaws in Soggy's math.

Given a catastrophic loss of air with a single at max penetration and a buddy, you do not have much room for error!! Same situation with doubles and an isolator manifold, and you can - again, theoretically - isolate and save 1/3 of your original air, allowing you to exit the cave on your own. Your buddy's air gives you some backup that you will probably need.

If anyone can point out the flaw in this logic, please do. The number of dives that he has done do not affect this.

BTW, I am currently in the middle of my full cave class, but I did all of my intro dives in singles, as did my buddy. Not to say this is good or bad, but there ARE some of us out there. We just don't get as many chicks.

(Not sure what we're arguing about, exactly, but I know I wanted a piece of it! :D)

lol

under limited circumstances, yes, singles are safer than doubles

statistics bear this out:

no single-tank intro diver has died in the past 15-20 years

several double-tank intro divers have died recently. their deaths
have been the result of exceeding their training and abilities.

draw your own conclusion as to intro divers and which tank is safer for them

There is a difference between data and information.

StSomewhere:
If you've read both threads, my conclusion is that you have too much spare time on your hands. (Yes, this is the pot calling the kettle black.)

Well Im gonna have to agree w/ you on that one.

JeffG:
There is a difference between data and information.

oh, i agree... we keep going in circles here...

ultimately, we have NO WAY OF KNOWING WHICH IS SAFER, because we just
don't have the information necessary to make a conclusion one way or another

i can't prove diving with singles for intro guys is safer. you can't prove
diving with doubles for intro. guys is safer

all i can do is look at one significant figure: i KNOW that the number of single-tank
intro diver fatalities in the last 15-20 years is ZERO. nothing. nada. zilch.

that tells me that no wholesale slaughter of single tank divers is taking place.
that also tells me that singles can't be the death trap people are making them out
to be.

The tank(s) they had on their back are irrelevent, since a LP120 will get you twice as far on 1/3rds as double 80s on 1/6ths...a fact you continue to ignore. Exceeding training can and will be done with either configuration, but you have better odds if you have more gas to get home on.

you mean irrelevant. but yes, you're correct. thank you. thank you Lord

finally... he says it

it don't make no difference whether you are diving doubles or singles. it's a
host of other factors that will kill you.

thank you, thank you Lord

did you hear that guys?
