Again an arrest on Bonaire.
By John van den Heuvel en Bert Huisjes
Kralendijk (Bonaire) Police has arrested Friday a second suspect in the case of the disappearance of the 24-year-old Marlies van der Kouwe. This was told by sources around the investigation team.
An arresting team on Bonaire arrested a man in the neighbourhood of Niki Boko on the island. It is the 19 year old Siegmar Marchena mostly known under his nickname “Kucho” on Bonaire.
The team went into the house of the family of the man. When he was arrested the family of the suspect offered resistance.
The house was immediately sealed for forensic research. The flown-in tracker-dogs were also used at that location, as witnesses stated. End of the week extra police-personnel and a special arrest-team were flown in.
The second suspect is a friend of Ryan P. (Rayan P.) They lived together in the same house. The search goes on for a black car, that supposedly played an important role in the kidnapping of Marlies van der Kouwe.
Siegmar is seen by the police as a possible accomplice for the making disappear of the body of Marlies van der Kouwe. They suppose she is not alive anymore.
It is three weeks ago that the pharmacist-assistance disappeared mysteriously on the island. She was tugged from her bike, nearly in front of her apartment. The custody of the provisional main suspect was prolonged Thursday with another eight days.
Up to now Rayan Pieters, who was convicted for hostage-taking and rape before, has only committed he knew Marlies. He was also in her vicinity on the evening of her disappearance, and according to him “something” had happened between them.
The investigation on Bonaire is made much more difficult because of the tight family-ties on the island. Just since this week it is possible to mention tips anonymously by telephone on Bonaire.
On the island searches have been done this week on several sites. The investigation was hampered because of heavy rainfall. This wiped away all tracks in the loose soil.
“The soil changes here in mud after heavy rainfall, and later in a concrete plate” says a source around the investigation. “When her body hasn’t been washed free, it will be very difficult to find her.”
