Again an arrest on Bonaire.

By John van den Heuvel en Bert Huisjes

Kralendijk (Bonaire) Police has arrested Friday a second suspect in the case of the disappearance of the 24-year-old Marlies van der Kouwe. This was told by sources around the investigation team.
An arresting team on Bonaire arrested a man in the neighbourhood of Niki Boko on the island. It is the 19 year old Siegmar Marchena mostly known under his nickname “Kucho” on Bonaire.
The team went into the house of the family of the man. When he was arrested the family of the suspect offered resistance.
The house was immediately sealed for forensic research. The flown-in tracker-dogs were also used at that location, as witnesses stated. End of the week extra police-personnel and a special arrest-team were flown in.

The second suspect is a friend of Ryan P. (Rayan P.) They lived together in the same house. The search goes on for a black car, that supposedly played an important role in the kidnapping of Marlies van der Kouwe.

Siegmar is seen by the police as a possible accomplice for the making disappear of the body of Marlies van der Kouwe. They suppose she is not alive anymore.

It is three weeks ago that the pharmacist-assistance disappeared mysteriously on the island. She was tugged from her bike, nearly in front of her apartment. The custody of the provisional main suspect was prolonged Thursday with another eight days.

Up to now Rayan Pieters, who was convicted for hostage-taking and rape before, has only committed he knew Marlies. He was also in her vicinity on the evening of her disappearance, and according to him “something” had happened between them.

The investigation on Bonaire is made much more difficult because of the tight family-ties on the island. Just since this week it is possible to mention tips anonymously by telephone on Bonaire.

On the island searches have been done this week on several sites. The investigation was hampered because of heavy rainfall. This wiped away all tracks in the loose soil.

“The soil changes here in mud after heavy rainfall, and later in a concrete plate” says a source around the investigation. “When her body hasn’t been washed free, it will be very difficult to find her.”

Third suspect arrested in case Marlies

Kralendijk, The Police on Bonaire has on Sundaymorning (local time) a third suspect arrested in the disappearance-case of the Dutch Pharmacist-assistant Marlies van der Kouwe. Marlies van der Kouwe disappeared three weeks ago on a Saturdayevening, after going out.

Suspect Ryan P. is already longer time in jail in connection with the disappearance. According to local media the new, 37 year old suspect is a brother of P. The 19 year old Siegmar M. was arrested Friday. He would have lived in the house of the Grandma of P., where also P. stayed regularly.

Police on Bonaire continuously does do searches after Marlies, with help of search-dogs. The Public ministry and the police said to be “very thankful” for all the help they got from the local community this far.

The local community is asked to keep giving information. According the police the tips of local residents are very helpful to solve the case.

Mother suspect: Ryan doesn’t say a word.

Kralendijk – The mother of Ryan Pieters (27) and Vincent (37), suspects of the kidnap of Marlies van der Kouwe, said Monday, that she doesn’t know on which grounds her oldest son has been arrested. Sunday morning he was taken away from the house of his mother, where Vincent also lives. Mother and son were still asleep.

“Police promised to call me, but I havn’t heard anything about Vincent. I have seen Ryan last time one-and-a-half week ago at the police-station. He doesn’t say a word” the mother says. “And I still didn’t get my car back. Police seized the car three weeks ago.”

Vincent was at the moment of his arresting jobless. He was safety-guard with his uncle, but got fired there because he wanted to take his holidays when his brother Ryan was arrested.

The pre-arrest of Ryan was prolonged Friday for the second time with 8 days. This week the investigating magistrate has to decide if the pre-arrest will be prolonged again. The lawyers of Ryan and Vincent didn’t give any commentary.

Hi Harrie,

The police are doing a very good job, I just wish they would find the poor girl. It would put her family and friends mind to rest, I am sure.

Regarding the above quote from the paper, as an employer on Bonaire it is ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to fire anyone on the island, especially a local person.

For the benefit of those that don't live, work or hire on Bonaire, there are contracts involved and steps that need to be taken, very similar to working for a union. I find it difficult (IMHO) to believe that he was fired for WANTING to take holidays when his brother was arrested. There has got to be more than that to the story...anyway, my 2 cents worth....

Thanks again Harrie for posting the articles, I live here on Bonaire and come here for my information, you are great!

a very short one (unusual for me, I know)

We just heard a part of some news on the radio, about a fourth arrest.
Didn't hear the whole story, because we are busy preparing our house for the hurricane/tropical storm around.

It could be that it is the same guy, that was arrested mondaymorning. Actually this guy was on the same party Sundayafternoon as we were. He was molesting women on that party, and telling them (he was very drunk), he wanted to rape them, just as he had done with Marlies. Later he molested his wife at their home, when she wanted to leave him (middle of the night sundayevening). We knew he was arrested for molesting his wife on Mondaymorning, but I hadn't really thought of a connection with Marlies, I just had seen it as big-stories-teller.
I am still not sure this is the same guy as they were talking about on the radio.

Frightening.

Harrie

Liz,

it is a question of how fixed that job was. Many locals just work here and there for some hours, and especially with family, they never have a contract. And if them is told that they don't have to come back tomorrow they say: I'm fired. But you cannot fire a person that doesn't have a contract.

And of course, it is possible there is more around than only wanting to have free to help your brother, who knows?

Harrie

Harrie,

Thanks for the update, yes I am aware of how the jobs are here, crazy isn't it. If he was working for his uncle, here and there, then I don't understand why his uncle would "fire" him if he wanted "time off" during his brother's incarceration. I'm mean, we are talking family, but then again as you say, who knows what else is involved.

Thanks.

Liz

The fourth arrested guy in the Marlies-case.
Is true, they arrested a fourth person Monday-morning. But it is definately some-one
else as the guy I saw on that sunday-afternoon-party. That one is also still in jail, but not for the Marlies-case, just (?!?) because of molesting his wife.
No further news, I hope the heavy rain (The Tropical depression Omar hits hard here, at the moment.) coming tonight and tomorrow will not disturb the search, and perhaps help.....
