Well, okay....the diving was great but spending 5 consecutive days on a resort boat with an incessant close talker made me want to jump overboard with Andre the giant's weight belt around my neck and no BCD.

If I had to hear one more story about his dive vacation trip to wherever the hell it was, I swear I would still be swimming back home right now.

Repetitive sea-sickness projectile vomiting will solve that problem!

You know, I used that technique on this trip once to.... :)

We've all had this happen to some degree. I often am diving single and seem to be a target for talkers. I try to not be overtly rude, but make it clear I'm not that interested in ongoing conversation. Limit responses and don't offer encouragement. Get busy with other activities, wander away on the boat, engage other divers and/or staff. On multiple day trips, I have, on a couple of occassions, discreely asked the DM to move my position on the boat to one farthest away from my new friend. In my experience, the talker quickly finds others to talk to. I can only hope this person was not made your buddy for the week :)

That's why I started putting together group trips years ago. Now that's never an issue.

I was in Fiji years ago and was buddied up with an Aussie lawyer. He talked my head off telling me how great a diver he was and that he wouldn't be following the rules laid down by the boat crew. Once we descended (which at least silenced him) he proceeded down to 150+ fsw. I stopped at 125 fsw and motioned to the DM to go after him as I rejoined the main group. I refused to dive with him on the next dive.

I'm deaf in my right ear, so position myself such that my left ear is toward the divemaster in order to not miss the briefing. If anyone sits to my right, I inform them of my disability, so that if they start talking, and I want to ignore them, they have been forewarned.
