Three dives yeterday with JDC. Sunny skies, light breeze, mid to upper 70s. Water was 74 F all 3 dives. Nice blue water, 50-70’ viz, hazy at times but typically great viz. mild to moderate north current with a west push. Seas were 1-2’. Only 4 divers on the boat. Heavenly!

Republic VII
Capt Phil, DM Brandon, Jenny on deck. My first time diving with Brandon & Jenny. They did a good job!

#1 Drifted the Bow of the Zion, which broke off in a storm a number years ago and rolled about a mile or so south of the Wreck Trek. One GG, tons of fish. Patch reef south & north. Max depth 77’, avg 63’.

#2 Did a new far southern site Phil named Lost Tree Reef as it is off shore from Lost Tree Golf Club. Patchy reef at points, a bit of a ledge at others. One GG and all the usual tropicals. Max depth 84’, avg 62’.

#3 Bahama Brads with the resident GG hanging with us most of our dive. Large schools of Atlantic Spadefish and all the usual tropicals. Max depth 81’, avg 62’.

Went out with JDC on another 3-tanker today. A bit chillier, windier & rougher today. Low to mid 70s air temps, NW winds shifting to N 10–15 mph, seas 2-3’ building to 3-4’. Beautiful day underwater though!

JDC Republic IV
Capt Ryan, DM Tariq, Mate Jenny, & Lisa was onboard too!

#1 Capt Kirle’s, beautiful blue water, 60-70’ viz, mild N current, 74F water temp

#2 Tunnels, more beautiful blue water, 70’+ viz, mild N current, 74F water temp

#3 Loggerhead, viz was down a little and hazy @ 40-50’ viz, moderate N current, 74F water temp.

Loggerheads are definitely coming into town for nesting season, lots of Spadefish, several GG, a large stingray swimming along the reef, multiple large nurse sharks, lots of amberjack on Tunnels.

6 dives over Sat & Sun. A fantastic way to spend a beautiful early March weekend!

Went out on Kyalami’s sexy red boat today. Same exact conditions that @Divin'Papaw described above.

Ropes off at 10:00 and Lighthouse (reef plains) was our first dive. Good current and decent vis. Wore my 3mil again today. Little chilly upon entry but I warmed up with periodic kicks. Saw one nurse shark that kept trying to bed down for a nap. When we drifted over the top of him, he would pick up and swim to the next spot only to get disrupted again. I kept trying to tell him to go south while we drifted north but he refused to listen. He finally wedged himself deep under an overhang. I got lucky spotting him and kept my distance but alerted a single diver who got some good shots. Saw a Loggerhead in the open. Saw a juvenile caribbean reef shark at the end who hit the road when a big Lemon shark came through on the prowl.

SI was chilly. I definitely dropped my top and put on a dry shirt and hat. Boat coats were out. I bought the Surf Fur hooded jacket over a week ago but USPS hit the snooze button and decided I didn’t need it delivered until tomorrow (when I’m back in the office).

Second dive was Captain Kirle’s. Nice relief to this reef with lots of overhangs. Strength of the current was slow on bottom and quick on top. Saw a few reef sharks and another Loggerhead. Plenty of Caeser grunts and Atlantic spadefish. Water temp was fine but my teeth actually started chattering with my head on surface. Seas picked up after the second dive and made pick ups a little more challenging.

Captain Mike is all growed up. He used to DM at Pura Vida, got a pay raise when he got on board to DM with Kyalami and now he’s skippering like a pro. Great USCG brief and super smooth on his pick ups. Kayla (wet) and Erick (dry) DM’d and worked their butts off taking care of customers. They don’t hardly need to do anything for me but I enjoy tipping them because they work hard. Lot of needy and sick folks on the boat today but they handled it with aplomb.

I rigged a 12v HangAir hanger in my cargo van. I dived yesterday and got into a dry wetsuit this morning.

Daddy likey.

After today’s dives I drove the three hours home and my wetsuit was again completely dry.

Bam!

I'm planning a trip back to the US in April, and I've got a bucket list of wreck dives from the Keys through Jupiter, including the Jupiter Wreck Trek. It doesn't appear to be dived all that often.

Kyalami just responded to my inquiry and offered to put it on the schedule for April 10th.

Let's fill the boat. Or at least meet the minimums.

Kyalami doesn’t dive it often, JDC regularly does.
