I found my pair of Bio-Fins in the water. One in La Jolla at 50 feet and one three years later in the sand at Laguna. I subsequently sold them to a diver who had forgotten his fins for a dive in Laguna. A few years ago my wife time-trialed fins in a pool and found the Bios to be faster than her Twin Jets and the Jets. For snorkelling/freediving I'd go with a longer blade like the Cressi. Bottom line--you'll probably find yourself with a few different fins for different types of activities.

I use the Jet fins for black water,
and Quattros for everything else.

There's been a lot of tests of many fins over the years, using numerous methods (speed, thrust, etc.). An older one is here http://www.divernet.com/gear/fins999/fins999.htm

I am a jetfin user, but I received a pair of yellow bio fins for Christmas. Used them in the pool yesterday and have to say that the jury is still out. They were fast, but felt "wimpy" compared to the jets. Time will tell. I should be able to see them in the darker waters, though...
