Going to Bali in June!! The last leg of the the journey is on Japan Airlines from Tokyo to Denpasar. From the website it looks like economy class passengers are limited to 20kg total checked luggage, plus a carry on of 10 kg. Is that right??? I was planning on buying a whole lot more than that!

Help, please.

wow, we took JAL from Norita/ Tokyo to DNP and I thought we had 40 (last year) for each bag.

One thing is you will get some choice seats becuse the Japanese did not scout around for better seats the way we Americans do. I ask the flight attendant about that and she said "oh, they stay in the assigned seats" Which sort of shocked me, because the flight was chocka block full, women holding babies, etc, except for the empty row of bulkhead seats which we took and slept in, since nobody else seemed to even want them. I really couldn't get over that. In fact there were a few more empties TOGETHER and not one person moved even though it was a red eye.

There are two systems for international luggage. the 20 kg total for both bags which is used in most of the world.

And the piece system (abbreviated on your ticket as PC) which applies to flights within North America or going to or coming from North America (as long as the flight is continuous, necessary stopovers are OK and preserve your piece status).

I just flew LAX-Narita (refueling and crew change) Tokyo and then to SINGAPORE on a Singapore Airlines 747. I spent the night at Singapore airlines. My luggage was checked thru to Manado from LAX as PIECE status with a limit of 32 kg per bag, two bags allowed (in the US some airlines may allow only 50 lbs per bag). Next morning I flew on Silk Air to Manado. Passengers on the Silk Air flight who were not on a continuous flight from North America were subject to the standard 20 kg total.

Had I decided to take a voluntary stop over of several days, I may have been subject to the 20 Kg. restriction. But the ticket tells the story.

Look on your ticket to see if it says 20 KG or PC under BGA (Baggage Allowance)
e.g from my economy class e-ticket Notice it says 2PC which means 2 pieces of 32 KG (Singapore Airlines allowance, other airlines may vary)
