Just in case you need some options for a last minute change to cenotes, I'll mention one Cozumel dive op that I know of that will also guide cenote dives on the mainland: Jungle Divers

My son and I had to make a similar last minute switch a few years back, and Jungle Divers was great. I believe their cenote dives all include transportation from Playa del Carmen, snacks between dives, and a Mexican lunch afterwards. We also did a guided shore night dive in Cozumel with them at Tikila (very near their shop) which was a great dive.

Currently the wind forcast indicates that the port will close on the 22nd and should remain open on the other days (north winds above 25 K/ph). Have you considered heading over to Playa the night of the 21st and getting a cheap hotel for the night?

The dive ops wait until they know for sure that the harbor is closed before canceling any dives, and often that isn’t until 8AM or so the day of the dives, so you need a bit of a crystal ball like the Windy app to plan ahead.

Based upon CURRENT wind speed AND direction, Wednesday 22 Jan is a port closed day 100%.
Monday the 20th looks iffy as well. It must be wintertime or something. :santa2:

Yeah, wintertime + my bad luck 😭
Two windy days out of six is not bad. Sometimes it's weeklong blowouts, vacationers not getting to dive, Ops & employees not making any money. Up here in the Texas Panhandle I was going to take my holiday lights down today before the harsh cold front hits tonight, but with 35 to 55 mph winds, I'll wait until the next nice day in a week.

FWIW, I suspect that whichever dive op you're diving with on Cozumel will be able to set up cenote trip/s for you on the fly. If it looks like the port will be closed for diving, they'll probably have a good idea that it's going to happen the day before, but even if not, they could probably set up a cenote trip for you the day of. That's been my experience anyway.

Thanks all, I may try to take that 6:30am Xcaret on Wednesday. Anyone have any experience with it?

Fingers crossed the weather turns around.
Just so that you are clear, that 6:30 time is from Playa to Cozumel. I think the first one with Xcaret, going the other way, is at 7:30am.
