For regs decide on service as part of your process. Do you mind mailing them if there is no local place? If so get ones that you can get service locally. Do you want to learn how and self service? If so consider brands that make it easier to do so.

Can a regular dive shop not service DGX regs?

Why do you recommend that for the first few dozen dives? After that first few dozen, getting a reg set, what will be different then than getting as a combo now?

I recommend a few dozen with different BC's so you know what is truly the best for YOU.

Regs with my above mentioned in mind I just recommend a sealed one.

If they are not a authorized service center for that brand most shops won't touch them

In our open water class not much was even discussed about different regs, so if I were to rent some Idk what I’d be seeing different between them. Right now my extent of reg knowledge is that I breathe through it, seriously I want to learn but I don’t know what to be looking for right now?

Regs is a whole different bag or worms........

Thanks for everyone’s help. Looks like we got a little off topic lol.

Are there major differences or advantages/disadvantages between the DGX gear, oms, and dive rite? Are the DGX combo regulators good or should I look elsewhere for that stuff?

Advantages/disadvantage possibly for some things like regs if you do/don't want to be able to service them yourself. I think the possibility of self service is a big advantage.

If you have no interest in servicing or sending away your reg, then look into what is locally carried.

Other than that, no. Anyone of those if you go with you can have a great setup. Some might have more bells and whistles like premium padding and buckles, that many don't want or need but of course some do.

The dgx gears bp/w combo has a wing made by a OxyCheq (their 30lb wing similar to it runs $400 by itself). It is a good deal to get in the water with a backplate and the harness is all you really need.

You will find that regulators are a religious and political issue rolled into one fueled by excessive alcohol consumption.

Buy Deep 6, atomic, scuba pro, apeks, any top performing brands and you'll be happy.

You will find that people will say their reg is the best and say others are bad/ripoff copies, etc.

Probably the most contentious topic unfortunately. I wish some people didn't have an axe to grind
