Yeah, Mares, but, see, just me, I got tired of not being able to get service and while it was long ago, it left me with a sour taste for Mares. But, they do make a metal regulator as does Scubapro, kudos for them and your quality tastes:). I would trust Scubapro for long term service, Mares, hmmmm, not so much, could be wrong. Not everyone is like you (or me or a few other regulars roundabout here parts) and will dig through dusty boxes, rob pieces from here or there or even make the parts if need be. N

I hear ya', but the Mares parts issue has not been an "issue" for me for at least four or five years. I've heard the stories about Scubapro and Aqualung "supporting" their products. I tried to get some metal parts for a MK VII and a USD Calypso VI about ten or twelve years back. Both companies gave me the same response...They haven't been available for some time...Luckily, the Scubapro regs all use the same basic second stage soft parts.

I don't think that is luck...

I have a set of MR12II regs, the one with the target purge, they are excellent breathers. Didn't I get a cover for one from you. One of them needs a silicone diaphragm to make it 100%, the plastic one has a small tear.

I hear you, Luis. Kind of like Aqualung and Mares using the same engineering dimensions on their HP poppets as what they were using 30 years ago...And, Scubapro 2nd stage soft parts being able to be used on regs built in the 1960's.

Too many times companies change just for the sake of change.

Nemrod,

Send me a PM with your address...I want to see you using that MR12 II more often...

Ladies & Gents,

One little detail you've overlooked: SP is the best brand today partly because they make pretty good stuff, but mostly because they have the very best technical support in all known galaxies... from this board!

I'm glad I let my LDS talk me into buying the SP MK 20/G-250 as the "ultimate" reg a year after he sold me the Aqua Lung Supra/Cousteau/XL as the "previously ultimate" reg (I like the guy, we're good friends):D.

Still have the AL, makes a good spare rig.

Zung,

The ultimate reg is actually the SP MK VII with removable plugs that allow the owner to pack anti-freeze grease into the ambient chamber. This first stage will deliver more gas than any two divers could ever need, has all the ports one needs, and honks if you get to "bingo" gas remaining.

As you are my friend, I'll be happy to sell one to you. :)

OOPS, sorry, forgot to mention also the very best sales support in the universe, see above. Who else goes into such pain to make very sure the customer gets the ex-ultimate, the current-ultimate, and the next-ultimate?

I'm thinking, couv, I'm thinking:D

And, while I'm here:

... Also the most comprehensive array of custom finishes painstakenly crafted to harmonize with every social status:
- Chrome/brass for the low income bluecollar
- UL for the jetset
- T for the Ferrari aficionado
- And, of course, MK 5/R-109 for the deity (instant Lordship guaranteed*, *unless you open the shrinkwrap, which voids all warranty)
