Wendy,
I know where you're coming from. As someone else that has a considerable driving distance and all of the associated hassles that come with that, I'm always frustrated because;
a) the operator ALWAYS tell you that NOAA/NWS/Weather Channel don't have a clue - even when you're watching live hurricane footage on your TV!
b) if I do drive all of the way down and they decide to cancel the trip I've wasted half of my day, gas, lost precious sleep, etc.
If nothing else, take the rain check - I'm certain there will be calm seas sometime soon.
I can understand the 24-hour policy, but someone with Splashdown's good reputation should have told you about it, or be willing to let you off the hook if you weren't told. DCI has actually let us off the hook when we had a diver in our group back out at the last minute a couple of times, but that may be in part due to the fact that we were fairly regular divers with them.
If any of you do go, stay safe and have fun.
If the boats don't get out....I'm still up for the morning of the 11th!
