....and she told me they will still be going out. I've got to call back around 8 a.m. tomorrow to verify.

I'm still game. I'll just pop some seasickness pills or something and maybe do some jumping jacks to be ready for the climb back on the boat.

Anyone else?

The dive shop told me that any winds out of the west (NW, SW, W) that the seas will be flat because the sites we are going to are only 1 mile off shore and that the land shields us from the wind. She said NOAA doesn't know anything.

So is this really true. She said that we could call at 8am to double check to make sure they are going out. I'm still concerned because I am driving 3 hours to get there.

Well...
I just came back from lunch (I work right on the intracoastal).
The wind is blowing HARD and the intracoastal has white caps.....and I could see the white caps on the ocean water from the 13th floor building I was in.........Blue Heron might be the best option. :(
IMO, it's kicking as bad as it gets during the winter months....I'm ok to dive it, but getting back in the boat is the most difficult thing for me (as a beginner).......

I am so pi**ed now. I decided to cancel my spot and she said she has to charge me becuz I didn't get 24 hours notice. I was not told this when I booked the spot, I was only told that I would be charged if I was a no show. She said if she finds someone to fill my spot or if I find someone to take my spot then I won't be charged. So anyone want my spot? I'm not feeling 100% physically as it is and I know being on that damn boat will just make it worse.

Any suggestions on what to do? SHould I bring up the baot to her that I wasn't told about the 24 hour notice to cancel and for her to not worrry about me using her boat again? I'm not in a position to blow $50, she said she could give me a rain check, but again I still pay the $50 and my trips down there are few and far between.

Help me!!!!

Unfortunately, I do find this policy on the website:

http://www.splashdowndivers.com/dive_boat/terms_and_conditions.htm

Funny, they didn't take a credit card number from me when I booked; she must have been in a rush?

Let me call and see what they say, since I'm in town and can call the weather on them, rather than them pulling that junk on you.....

The thing is when I booked and she got my cc number to hold my spot I wanted to make sure that my card wasn't going to be charged, I intended on paying cash. She said my card would only be charged if I didn't show up for the dive.

Let me know what she says.

Wendy,

I know where you're coming from. As someone else that has a considerable driving distance and all of the associated hassles that come with that, I'm always frustrated because;

a) the operator ALWAYS tell you that NOAA/NWS/Weather Channel don't have a clue - even when you're watching live hurricane footage on your TV!

b) if I do drive all of the way down and they decide to cancel the trip I've wasted half of my day, gas, lost precious sleep, etc.

If nothing else, take the rain check - I'm certain there will be calm seas sometime soon.

I can understand the 24-hour policy, but someone with Splashdown's good reputation should have told you about it, or be willing to let you off the hook if you weren't told. DCI has actually let us off the hook when we had a diver in our group back out at the last minute a couple of times, but that may be in part due to the fact that we were fairly regular divers with them.

If any of you do go, stay safe and have fun.

If the boats don't get out....I'm still up for the morning of the 11th!

:)

Ok, I talked with Lynn...she is pretty insistent, isn't she? Anyway, all I can figure is that we can get up in the morning and see whether it has blown through or not.....
I'm assuming detroit diver will be there as he's not chimed in, so I will show.

Wendy, I guess it's your call. Do you wnat to take the drive and chance it? If you do want to cancel, we could see if you can transfer the credit to me (and I pay you)... I'm sure I could make use of it sooner or later.

Hi everyone,

Well, I'm still on for tomorrow. Should be interesting!!

Wendy, are you out for sure? Anyone else not diving tomorrow?

Bubblejunkie, what's your real name?

How do we find each other at the restaurant? I'll wear my mask! If you see people staring a some weirdo, just come over and say hi!

I am still going and Dr. Jay is going too (since i am driving i will chain him to the hood :)

But to be at the restaurant by 7 am we need to leave just before 4 am...

So if the dive gets cancelled @ 8 am i will be _REALLY_ *******

:upset:

see ya tommorow :)
