Rick Inman:
Take a class, sonny. The diving here is to dangerous for anyone but great divers like us."

Rick,I guess my choice of words upset you. I am sorry that you read into my post that I was advocating classroom type training. I have never considered myself a better diver than anyone else. I am not a great diver. Since I have two children that dive I would like to think that I do dive well enough to mentor them. I just love to dive and help if I can.

If I were the "Take a class Sonny" that you have pegged me as, then I would probably have a list of special certs behind my name as long as my arm. Instead, after having dove since 1977, I have my rescue. Unlike some people who are "take a class" type, I am not a divemaster with only 60 dives in my book.

I will admit that while I was scrolling through the "new post" the one titled "c-c-c-c-cold...." caught my eye. I read and responded to it before I noticed it was in the Nor Cal forum. You guys are correct, I have no knowledge or experience of Montery, just cold water in general and that is what I was responding to. For that I am guilty. Sorry. :)

Zepp157: There are a lot of qualified divers on this board, take advantage of their (not mine) knowledge and experience. Enjoy your diving.

Not upset at all. In fact, I wasn't thinking of your post at all. Heck, you're in Indiana, you can't dive with this person. Like I said in my post, classes are good. We agree. Just suggesting that for many skills, being mentored by other local divers can be a superior method. At least for me it has. Some very excellent divers on this board have dived with me and helped me improve my diving, and for them I am very grateful.

My lds is going to work me into the latter half of their next advanced course. One class session, pool session and all 5 dives. Probably much more than neccessary but what the heck...

answers to previous questions:

Diver0001 about drysuit: I plan to go wet with rented suit. If I like diving Monterey, I may consider a drysuit and what I'll need to sell on ebay in order to be able to get one. :)

humanFish about a group dive: I'm up for a group dive. I could be in Monterey on Dec 4th. Any takers?

Dec 4th is a distinct possibility. Send me a PM as the dates draws closer ;)

And he never lets that go unnoticed either. Personally I welcome other knowledgeable opinions and questions.

Maybe its just me, but I didn't consider Chuck's response rude at all. I thought that he was right on.

We ALL welcome other knowledgeable opionions, but frankly talking about chainsaws etc to someone wanting dive Monterey doesn't come across as Knowledgeable - in regards to Monterey that is. Seeing as how the thread was a question about Moneterey posted in the NorCal section. . . . . .

No one is suggesting that other people from other areas should not post . . . . .

Rick,
Actually I liked your comments about gauging the potential mentor by their response, and I cannot see how anyone here would have interpreted that as you making any kind of dig at anyone here.

Again, its just my opinions, and I have never dove through ice. . . .

Ah yes, the internet... can be confusing.
I figured out why Desa took offense to my post. I said,
Rick Inman:
Here is the reply from the person you do NOT want to mentor you: "Take a class, sonny. The diving here is to dangerous for anyone but great divers like us."
Of course, I used the term, "sonny" to mean a youngster. However, if you look at Desa's signature, you'll see that his name is Sonny! No wonder the confusion.
Desa, I was not referring to you. Didn't even notice your name is Sonny. Just a weird co-incidence.
Sorry about the confusion.

Rick: Yep, confusion happens. Truce :boxing_sm

Wristshot, I already apoligized for that, read post 12, paragraph 3. Just one of those things one does when he sees something he thinks (wrongfully this time) that he should repsond to, but didn't take the time to check it out. When I saw the post, I didn't take the time to notice it was a Nor Cal forum. My bad. I did a chilly dive on Sunday and we were talking about ice diving in the near future, thus all the irelevant tangent. :D

One last thought, I feel like I have hijacked this thread and Zepp157 is not getting the solution he is looking for, so I am done. Ya'll take care and dive safe, we will talk again someday on a different more appropiate thread.
