I have a really weird/odd idea....

Maybe we could actually SEE the movie before we trash it.

It stars Jessica Alba, and Paul Walker.

Feel free to trash away, either one of them is the kiss of death; together?

It's doomed. DOOMED, I say!

Louie:
Anybody seen the TV ads and trailers for this film?

I got one of these standard bulk PADI emails the other day where they mentioned they were jumping on the back of this movie to promote OW courses. So I figured this is another one of those u/w documentaries.

Then last night, I saw a TV advert (the most exciting clips from the film rolled into twenty seconds) and it's an adventure/action/fiction starring some famous starlets - story revolves around a wreck hunt with danger, suspense.... usual Hollywood formula...

So I thought hmmmmmmmm. This is a bit like using "Jaws" to promote sport fishing.

If anyone's seen the film, please let us know how bad/good it is.

Now, I'm going to go look for the smallest white bikini I can find for my next big wreck dive.

This has been thoroughly and lasciviously analyzed in another thread :D :

The trailers reminded me of a 1977 movie with Robert Shaw call "The Deep". It seems that Hollywood just recycles a plot every few years (or decades in this case).

...starring big-bosomed actresses...

...that popularize scuba among the great unwashed masses...

It COULD result in a glut of people who get certified, maybe dive a couple of times, then give it up because they were just following a fad and weren't really serious about it.

Well, I'd hardly call Jessica "Big-Bosomed" :gr1:

Not sure if a GLUT of people getting certified is a bad thing, and assuming that happens, I seriouly doubt that every one would give up!

I guess I'm a glass half full type of guy. Personally I have no problem with Hollywood making movies about diving :D

If we're lucky, we may see a few months' rise in the popularity of newbies taking advantage of that 10% of the time that a wetsuit isn't needed...

I heard they filmed the entire movie in Nassau, Bahamas in February. I was there in March. 72 degrees and I needed a 3mm. February is much colder even the locals don't dive in the "winter".

I live my life a quarter mile at a time, in that ten seconds, lets dance!

Big glamorous movies about underwater treasure/contraband hunts...

...starring big-bosomed actresses...

huh?

she needs a little more meat on her... kinda scrawny...

I still don't know why PADI chose this film to push OW courses. Do they actually want to convince Joe Public that the sport is full of nubile up-for-it young birds diving clear blue waters when really it's full of grubby unwashed souls diving our local muck?

bingo.

Louie:
I think I'll leave the white bikini to the likes of this Jessica woman and other younger contemporaries. Wreck diving has enough hazards without the sight of scantily-clad old instructors.

Whooaaa!!! Lets not make any fast decision until I do some wreck diving trying to find a scantily-cald YOUNG instructor in a white bikini.

Thats what I thought of when I saw the trailer also. It looks like a movie that I would see and not expect a lot from just have fun and enjoy the visuals (jessica oh yeah and the fishies) and not expect much of a plot
