I personally know of two people/divers who used the octo configuration and they are now dead. All the people that I know that use the intergrated 2nd are still alive.

Enough said.

Um.. that means nothing without context of total number of people that use octos vs number of people that use Air IIs vs number of people that use a bungied secondary and the number of deaths in each and under what situation.
It means BDSC knows a lot of dead guys. I'd stay away from him. :D

Be kind to me. Today is my birthday and I am 51. And one day closer to being one of those "dead guys". :reaper:

it depends on what you want, air2 is nice because it eliminates a hose, but its cramming a little more stuff into 1 thing making it a PITA at times. unless you can borrow it If your looking for a starter rig and are going to swap everything out kinda soon then get the air2 and see how you like it. in your classes usually they provide gear for OW and they have octos and regular power inflator so you would get to try the octo setup there then from trying octo and trying air2 you can see what you like. i know some people that love having their play rigs as simple as possible with hoseless comp and air2 they have only 2 hoses coming from the 1st stage which is kinda awsome at times

Wow, so octo configuration divers are immortals? Is that the way to obtain immortality? And here dumb little me thinking that we can't live forever.

This is a good discussion. The argumentation is great, it made me smile here at work...lol.

I appreciate all of your input thus far. I have an Air2 setup for the weekend, and then after that im going to try and find an octo setup to try, then I will post on my results.

I can tell you what the result is:

A. Separate octo makes for easier usage of both octo and inflator hose.

B. Inline octo makes for more convenient, streamlined packaging but at the expense of ease of usage.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

Did they die in a car wreck or ran out of air?

My secondary is bunjeed around my neck, both easy to find and makes it impossible to "be destructive to sensitve environments." That longer hose you suggest to make it moderately functional could sure do some reef dragging though. You're really reaching to justify this P.O.S., which is always the case with alternate air source/inflator users.

That longer hose is a matter of inches and not feet and is only for those who need it. In my case I have a wing that needs it and another that does not. Having the bungie neckless brings in another issue. A complete circle around you neck is a choking hazard this isn't the same as an open loop from a hose. The Octo can get knocked out of the neckless during a OOA event were the OOA dive is grabbing the octo out of your mouth.
I think you are reaching to justify old school over a newer method. In your opinion it is a P.O.S. but there are many users that find it to be a better solution for their needs. I prefer it even on my BP&W kit with a long hose primary and I believe you find it gaining in popularity with good reason.
