As South Florida's Atlantic water temps plunge into the mid seventies, my 7 mil just isn't hacking it anymore. Often while I'm leading a group on the reef I'll get chilly even with a hood. Somehow, the divers in my group sense this, especially the girls from the University of Tampa. As soon as we're back up on the boat after the dive they tell me, "You are so cool". Unbelievable. How can they tell?

I can believe it....if I wore a 7mm in mid 70s water, I'd be sweating my cojones off. That's why I'll be wearing my 3mm when I'm down there next month.....with no hood til at least the 3rd or 4th dive.

I get that a lot-it's kind of weird-and it's always the females-but then again they are very perceptive eyebrow

Kev,

Maybe it's the shrinkage that clued them in on you being cold.

Everyone reacts to water temperature differently. Even though I have usually worn a (rented) 3 mm wet suit for dives in the 70s F, I have often felt a bit chilly, especially during a second or third dive. Thus, when I recently bought a wet suit, I purchased a Pinnacle Fusion -- a 5 mm suit. I'm looking forward to "baptizing" the new wet suit during a trip to Maui in February.
