If all your dive gear was stolen or vaporized or you lost it in a divorce etc. And you had to replace everything and cost was not a factor what would you chose for the following items? 1)Regulator 2) BC back inflate and pretend a BP&wings had not been invented yet 3) Computer 4) Fins. And you want the best money can by and the best available.

Whose to say whats best? Research all of your gear choices based on the type of diving you do. I don't recall seeing any top end stuff that is garbage. Scubapro, Auga-Lung, etc all make good to excellent equipment. Whether you buy on line or at LDS is per your comfort zone. Incidently, divorce is the equivilent of theft/vaporization. Afterwards, money will definitly be an issue.

I'd get exactly what I lost (if I could find it - some of it is no longer being made).

That's funny! The BP and wings were invented BEFORE the jacket style BC.

Let pretend that the poodle jacket hadn't been invented!

I'm going to go out on a looooong limb, here.

This has not, as a matter of fact, happened to you (lost all your gear). But you do have a chunk of change to spend on gear (getting back into the sport, maybe. Maybe a new diver, dunno).

I'll make some further analysis... You care more about what appears to be the best, rather than what is. But you, sensibly, don't quite trust the recommendations of your LDS (or there isn't one in the area, or you're trying to buy online).

Drat, you specified back inflate, I don't know how I missed that.

Given all of that: a SeaQuest Balance, Poseidon Odin, VR3, whatever split-fin Rodale's rated the highest.

Also, be sure to get a retractor for your console.

1. Regs - Exactly what I have now, ScubaPro Mk25/S600 w/ an R380 backup. (Long hose and necklace) Maybe a G250HP.

2. BC - BP and wings not invented? I'll just have to invent some myself!

3. Computer - Tough one. Probably a VR3 (I could at least sell it if I didn't like it) or a Uwatec bottom timer.

4. Fins - ScubaPro Jet Fins - What I use now, great fins.

I'll bite, this could be fun.

1) First of all, I'd buy two, both Aqualung Legend LX supremes. I use a Y valve with singles and with doubles you obviously need two regs.

2) BP & wings. If it hadn't been invented yet I'd become rich and famous for the idea :)

3) Vytec - no intention of ever diving trimix.

4) Aqualung Blades II (or Quattros - also good) and a pair of Jetfins (despite being heavy, slow and ugly) for when you're planning on going somewhere where the longer/faster fins are in the way.

Much like, "How much is a cab ride?"

I would buy:

Reg: Atomic (any of them)
BC: A good back inflate weight integrated (the best I could afford)
Computer: Suunto Vyper
Fins: Aqua Lung Blades or Blade II's
