So we are diving under ice, not the cleanest water, and we get to choose between a APEKS or SCUBAPRO... which would u choose and why?
we will also be doing some traveling to the Caribbean. Possibly in the future i will also be doing some tech diving.

This is just out of curiosity. which set of regs would u choose? the 2 brands are APEKS and SCUBAPRO... which 1st and 2nd stage would u choose.

personally i dive with a Scubapro MK17/G250V but i've just been lookin into different things.

THANX

Depends on which Scubapro regulator you're talking about. Diaphragm 1st stage regulators tend to be a bit more robust for cold water/ ice diving than pistons. Most of the Apeks regualtors are Diaphragm & would be fine. They are a bit more resistant to freezing up. For warm water/ Tech/ Travel, either would suffice. On that note, I will say that I have only had mine (MK25/S600) freeze up once, in hundreds of dives, in our local quarry (42 degree water). During a drill in a technical course, I accidentally tapped the purge button. I prefer the MK25/S600 because it never fails to give enough air,... in fact I have 9 of them. The Apeks regulators are diaphragm regulators. My technical instructor prefers to technical dive with Apeks Tech 3 1st stages & Scubapro S600 2nd stages. He likes the cleanness of the hose routing & the ease of breathing. He teaches both in the local quarry & the caves in FL & has never had any issues.

On a side note, if you are seriously wanting SP regulators, there are some changes coming at the 1st of the year. 1. They are having a price increase & 2. Any regulators purchased after the first of the year will no longer have the "Free parts for life" warranty. Just something to consider.

Am I able to change my mind over the next three months
when I realise that I have no idea of what I am speaking
or when others realise that no regulator will deliver the required amount of oxygen when you are out of breath

Granted, not one of your choices, but for the conditions stated, myself, I would go with Poseidon . . .

We guess you mean air?

I would guess there are many possibilities as to what he meant that maybe even had nothing to do with diving. Think of Confucius on acid....:D

MK17 g250v all the way, not sure why you would want to spend more money on regulators. Spend that money on a tropical vacation.

Perhaps because the regulators work for the purposes they are used for. I personally need a very good, easy breathing (even easier than the MK17/G250V- not that those are bad regulators) for the diving that I do.

knowone is our resident poet. I'd say he chose and "meant" each word.... plus is having fun with us as always :D

And, beyond the poetry.... he is indeed correct, about that pesky oxygen thing if you allow yourself to get out of breath (overwork, shallow breathing, C02 builds...)

Best wishes.

Well, that's not totally true. He said, "no regulator will deliver the required amount of oxygen when you are out of breath".
Try panting as hard as you can off of a Mares R2 (or comparable unbalanced piston reg). Then do the same with an MK25/S600 or any comparable high end reg. There is a huge difference in the amount of gas each is capable of delivering.
