Hi all,

A friend sent photos of something he found while diving in the Gulf of Mexico near Panama City FL.

He seems to think it's some kind of shell, but it I can't find anything in my reference sources to confirm this I.D.

Meanwhile, I think it part of a sea rod or sponge that has dried & calcified.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not dried sponge, there is a little shrimp looking animal in that center hole. I have found lots of them. Have no idea what they are called. Maybe some kind of coral animal that moves around.
