Looking at our handout (what I have in front of me):

5" *may* be suitable for ice diving.
6-8" "really the minimum for ice diving" (this is about what we have now in NH, more should be on the way with the current cold snap).
12+" suitable for vehicles.
18" suitable for small aircraft.

How do you tell if the ice is suitable for landing a small aircraft on when you're flying around above it? hah!

We had perfect conditions and a couple of great days of ice diving this past weekend at Hathaways. I haven't posted all the photos to the group yet, pending completion of the video editing, but here's a slideshow of some of the pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/msilvia/sets/72157594531882701/show/

Horizontal vis was 60+ based on a line measured to 50', and while I can't estimate vertical vis, it was possible to see the Field & Sea wreck through the ice. Water temperatures were around 39 degrees, and the air temp was just below freezing. A good time was had by all.

Great pics, Matt. Can't wait to see the video. Was definitely a good expierence, made all the better by having a fun bunch of divers with whom to share it.

Congrads you all.

Nice to see everything went well and the dives turned out a success. Ive seen awsome footage of diving in Anartica and would love to do it someday.

Very nice pictures also. Looked like a lot of fun.

Thanks Matt, I gota do that next year. Even if it means traveling.

Great pics. It looks so odd to see ice with no snow cover.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

The video's very nearly done... if I can get some free time on my work computer tonight, I may have it finished for tomorrow.

Great pics Matt. Glad you guys had a good time. Wish I could have been there, but I'm glad I was in the Keys with 85 degree temps and 75 degree water.
