are you positive the air is coming out of that hole, or elsewhere on the regulator?
 
For what it’s worth, dive shop said it was an older tank valve and, although they were both 300 bar setups, the XT1 did not quite reach the back of the valve. Set it up on a few other tanks and off to the races. Thanks, everybody, for weighing in.
Worth cleaning the threads of the tank as salt buildup in the last few threads can stop you from screwing the reg in all the way.
 
you either have an oring that isn't sealing correctly or the din fitting isn't screwed in far enough for the weep hole to be leaking

check there isn't anything obstructing the sealing surface inside the valve and that you are not misaligning and not screwing in all the way. if you feel grinding while tightening, check there isn't thread damage to the valve or reg
