Or add a slim bungee to your backplate with a small boltsnap at the end, long enough to reach around the valve and hook to your existing and still fastened upper leash.
Top leash needs to be long enough to allow the bungee to pull the tank up under your arm.
It takes very little force to lift the pony under water so expect no stretch in the bungee once underway.
The stretch allows easy rigging and access to the valve.
Now once ya got that adjusted just right, take that tank off your back and rig it the same....loose the third reg and tada...
SM Dork like me!
Look them over with the poodle jackets, and split fins, packing 10 extra lbs of lead, poor trim, issues descending, issues staying at depth, lack of spacial awareness, 45 min and they're LOA.
I wait until the dive to form any opinions on anyone.
I believe we are all dorks for embracing SCUBA.
Some just take it more serious than the standard PADI OW/AOW graduate.
Choose your path and gear and "Don't worry. Be happy." Big smile! You're going diving!

P.S. (to the op)
Do you tell the group you're diving with that you donate your primary?

Thanks, Kevin

Do you have pics or video on this configuration?

Definitely look like a dork, but here's the pony on a ring bungee:

I need to shorten the bungee length a bit, but other than that, it hangs pretty well.

Lightweight bungee attached from the opposite side of a bp or bc strap in the back offers tension to hold the neck of a tank up and under your arm.
Ignore the loop in the wing and that it continues on the opposite side.

lower clip to back D ring on waist, leash goes around the neck from chest D ring.
Clip bungee to leash and underwater it will pull the tank back.

I like how the bungee necklace wraps to secure the second stage in transport...
Sorry for the delay.
Only worked 5 hrs today so I got the chance.
As with all that is SM, you will be challenged to engineer the perfect fit.
Choker length, bungee length, size/stretch, method and location of attachment.

Cheers, Kevin

Well I dove with the Pony....twice out of 10 dives....got familiar with it and how I wore it then sucked her dry and put it away.....I don’t see myself trekking this to the Caribbean again...

Btw...I carried the bottle on in my backpack both ways on the airlines without question....valve was in my checked bag.

DORKS live on:dork2::drunks:

I bought ball bungees to hold reg and hose to the bottle..

Way perfect!

1st off who cares if you look like a dork, a pony is extra insurance.. I use a wire bracket I got from England mounts my Pony right on back and to side of my steel tank.. neutral buoyancy and I have a separate 1st/2nd stage.. I like to solo, thus gives me 20 more minutes, never had to use it yet, but like the safety factor.. Imo spare airs are useless but I guess 5 extra breaths better than nothing but at 80ft doubt it will make a difference

I opted for the 19 over the 13, same diameter, only very slightly longer when you stand them next to each other, but a ton more air to use.
I never could get the back mount to agree with me, seemed to move my center of gravity way too high even when balanced between left and right side.

As far as the more important topic of looking like a dork, if you can't avoid the mud, roll in it.
My personal favorite is to wear a vintage Aqua Lung dive knife (the big black rambo one with the bare metal colored hammer cap in the butt) strapped to each hip.
I totally get a kick out of being (safely) inappropriate in my gear configuration and appearance whenever it suits me, but you have to totally shamelessly own it for it to work.
I may or may not take specific pleasure in using this to give DIR folks seizures at the entry points to a local quarry.

I'd rather be a dork than dead
