I carry all my safety gear in glued on thigh pockets (whether in my dry suit, or any of my wetsuits). Simply add pockets. You can get them for about $20.

Rainer, can you post a link to these $20 pockets? I'm asking because the only ones I can find are made by Halceyon and run $55.

The very same pockets to which I refered. Work fine. I glued one to my 3mm suit. Glue is holding, but I'll probably also stitch it in the future (I rarely dive warm water). I also added two grommets to the pocket (one on each side), so I could add bungee loops.

My whistle, sausage, a spare glow stick, and reflector are in a pocket I added to my left, lower BC strap. The "pocket" is a small camera case I picked up at Wal-mart ($5) My spare folding knife is in another on my lower right BC strap.
Backup light, slate and anything else is in a kangaroo pocket on my cummerbun (sp). Everything stays streamlined and the cost was negligible.

Dive Rite makes some mesh pockets for back plates. I usually clip and bungee with inner tube my small UW Kinetics light on my RH shoulder D ring. The knife goes on the left waist strap. The whistle is looped on my inflator where it has been forever. The sausage and spool clip on my rear D ring or sometimes on my RH waist clip because I don't carry a can light for daylight diving. The Dive Rite mesh pocket can, alternatively, occupy this place. I don't carry a spare mask or snorkel generally or flares or smoke or dye. I may carry a mirror in the Dive Rite pocket. I really don't carry much with me usually. Just don't need all that stuff. N

My sos kit is in a small mesh bag which I clip to one of the small D rings under my wing toward the bottom. It's out of the way, but I can still reach it if necessary.
