I make them so you have light pressure, not much. You don't want them loose, but too tight isn't good either. Mostly you should be able to put them on & then not notice them until you're ready to take them off.
How tight should spring straps fit?

Well I think I'll take my boots and fins into the dive shop this week and try the XL's and Larges at the same time and see what feels better, the XL's have just a little bit of pressure on the back of my heels, so I'm thinking they are a little too loose.
