DocVikingo:The reflexive response from lay contributors to this forum often seems to be, "Call DAN." Kind of makes one wonder about the purpose of a Diving Medicine section if all that really is needed is a simple sticky with the following info:
You or your physician can contact DAN at 919-684-2948 (Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm EST) or email at http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/c...asp?RE=Medicine
I'm not sure if this part of your response was directed at me, and if not, I apologize in advance. If so, I do take offense to it. I stated scubacollin should get the name of the procedure being done and call DAN for advice. Unfortunately, not many physicians have enough, if any, knowledge in dive physics. Is it wise to rely on a physician such as this for advice related to scuba diving? I certainly wouldn't want to. As far as this forum, it's a good forum to get information on common occurrences in diving, such as ear equalization problems, bloody noses, etc, or even common experiences. The procedure scubacollins describes doesn't sound like a common one (I've had 3 scopes on my knees, one not so common). DAN is there to offer expert advice by know experts. There's no guarantee of that on this forum. I'm guessing that you are a physician, but even your disclaimer:
This is educational only and does not constitute or imply a doctor-patient relationship. It is not medical advice to you or any other individual, and should not be construed as such.
is designed to release you of any liability, with all due rights since you've never seen any of the contributors to this forum. I may be new to SB and this forum, but I am certainly not a lay contributor, just a cautious one.
No offense intended. This message holds all due respect, and I would appreciate clarification on your comment and the intended purpose of this forum. A PM would be fine.
