That is a charming back story.
I have a lightly used old style Dive Rite Vertical Zip Pocket--it measures 9X6X2 so it should fit your 5"x8.5"x2" object snugly. It's yours if you want it, and you can reimburse me the shipping costs after you get it (should be around $10 USPS priority). PM me if you are interested.View attachment 894640

That's so kind of you to offer. I'll send you a DM.

butt pouch like sidemount divers use. just clip it off to the base of your plate with a pair of double enders once your tank is on your back.

Or even one of those thigh mounted pockets, but mounted on your wife's tank.

You need a pocket, I hate pockets. When forced to have a pocket I use an old cam band and attach the pocket to the tank down low so that I can easily reach it. This kind right here works well and can be put on the tank by separating the buckle.

Unfortunately, I am of insufficient diameter to have a pocket on my waist band on my Hog rigged wing/BP, no place to put it and pockets on my thighs, lol, yeah, sure, not! I have spent decades trying to reduce clutter and to become as sleek as possible, just no on thigh pockets for me.

I have used it for a solo course to carry the spare mask I never carry or sometimes if drift diving far away in a place I might get lost from the group I have a rescue kit in it, things I rarely or never need. Velcro flap closure.

Since I am not slinging a pony anymore and I have 2 d-rings on my freedom plate, I just removed the hip d-rings from my webbing. Gave me enough room for a modified trim pocket to hold my nautilus lifeline.

I have tried many of the mentioned pockets and then some more. Various shorts, harness pockets and so on.

I am not a fanboy of specific brand- on the opposite, I usually like to mix stuff.

That said, the best pocket that I ever had is the Halcyon one. Specifically, the new design. The oldest was crap and the fabric deteriorated after some 50 dives. The new one has just about the exact rigidity to make taking out and placing back about anything single handedly. Pockets that are too soft it is annoying and if they are with zipper good luck closing zipper with one hand. Halcyon new pockets have sturdy velcro and easily opened/closed. Sure, they are expensive but very well worth it. Have inner smaller compartment with zipper where one can place a small weight, or car key etc.

it is a good product well designed. I know, it is just something simple- a pocket. But really it stands out. My wife stole it from me, now I have to buy a new one...

@uncfnp I use my hip D ring to clip off my spg. My pony D ring is way beside the plate and would not interfere with a pocket. I am Hog rigged on all of my gear. But the OP might could do something like that. He may be of larger circumference, me, barely 30 inches so once my buckle is pulled over to the right and closed there is no place for a useful pocket and I hate pockets, they just accumulate stuff that is not needed to dive. Like underwater stereos.

For an upcoming dive trip, I have the need to stow an object that is 5"x8.5"x2" safely. I dive Halcyon BPW and don't have pockets (aside from the weight pockets), but now I need a single pocket.

I bought the Fourth Element Tech shorts, but they are absolutely overkill for my needs. I normally dive with just swim trunks and a Henderson hooded vest, so big neoprene shorts are really not ideal. I don't want more neoprene and more buoyancy.

I only need to access the pocket twice per dive, once to retrieve the item and again to stow it. Price is not an issue, I just want the most streamlined option that won't add buoyancy or frustration.

For those that may wonder what it is I need to stow in a pocket.... for almost 20 years my wife and I have dove together, and during every safety stop we dance. It started as a frivolous gesture of affection, then became a means to practice buoyancy, and at this point is simply a cherished part of our diving. Hundreds of dives, always ending in a dance before slowing ascending back to reality. For all of that time I've wished I could get music to play underwater, but never found a solution until reading about folks here using a Divevolk to watch movies during deco stops. I bought one for an upcoming trip, but since I don't plan to use it for taking pictures I need to stow it until the end of each dive. I'm not expecting Dolby surround sound, but I am hoping it is a step up from me humming a waltz through my regulator.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
