Which primary regs cost 2000$ new?

---------- Post added August 22nd, 2013 at 08:59 AM ----------

We have an op asking how much tec diving costs. If even asking the question then price is a concern. For this reason talking about max prices that can be paid makes little sense!

But, yeah, you can spend 100k$ +++ on tec diving within the first year if you like...

All the more reason to buy a rebreather and take it slow thereafter...

Cedric, I provided a link for MUCH more expensive regs. I posted a link to Scubapro Titanium regs that were selling for just shy of $1900 for a first and second stage. That's not including an SPG or any hoses. I wasn't trying to say you have to buy EVERYTHING, BRAND NEW. I was just putting a list together of things many tech divers find necessary. I didn't put scooters, or a specific vehicle for diving, or a private jet to fly yourself to exotic travel destinations. Seriously, you need to breathe, read, and chill out. Also, I didn't post max prices. I posted prices for things if buying new. Sometimes there's no other good option (you're really in a hurry to buy some gear last minute before a class).

Now, as far as required gear (and if it keeps a whole list of people from whining for putting a complete list together) most courses require a very short list of items:
-Appropriate exposure protection
-Regulators suitable for doubles
-Regulator suitable for deco bottle
-BCD suitable for carrying multiple tanks (SM harness or BPW with doubles wing)
-2 cutting tools (I like trilobites, shears are also common)
-Fins suitable for tech diving, plus 2 masks (preferably low volume)
-Bottom timer or multigas computer
-Method of taking deco tables underwater
-Safety reel/spool and lift bag
-You might be able to rent tanks, mains AND a deco bottle or deco bottles

However, your instructor should have a specific list and recommendations as to specifics. Talk to an instructor before purchasing significant amounts of gear.

Again, read the thread, that was addressed a few pages back. I believe it was a Titanium Atomic reg.

I probably have a better perspective than most people as I've been selling hundreds of thousands worth of dive gear the last few years. Here's what I know. Most people I've encountered simply don't want used gear. It really takes some effort to sway people into buying used stuff. The OP asked, several people answered. Ultimately, as cheap as a few grand or as much as 10's of thousands. The choice belongs to the buyer. But don't try to diminish someone's input, because while it might not be what YOU would spend, it is what some people spend all the time, which is what the OP asked.

Right guys I need to chill out, lol...

As for titanium regs, does anyone know the price for gold plated first stages? Thinking they would go well with my AK47... Seriously!

Anyhow, gear less than 2000€ for all minimum reqs (in tropical waters). First course is around 500€. So yeah 2500€ should do!

its gonna add up and quick....
I just got Apex sidemount mx50, amazing, perfect beautiful regs but a set for the twinset/sidemount thats a 1k (with a good deal)
Picked up a Hollis SMS100 (great as the wing is removeable which save you quite a bit as setting up the twinset or breaking down the sms is quite easy)
new jet fins.
depth gauge/bottom timer.
Finn 1400 lumen canister lamp and another aquatec backup
a few random accessories
al back plate and still debating which harness to go for. Xdeep Simlple v.s Apex (to make on costs about 75$ said and done the xDeep simple runs for 75$ and for a little more could go for the apex which is pretty nice yet simple)

plus paid a alot of my course fee's books and pics

feel like my bases are covered, eventually will get some Apex for stage regs (ease of servicing all at once)
would like either a OCTC 2 hendrich comp or liquid vision, but going to hold off on that for a while and work with y vplanner to slates tables.

but next may or 2015 rebreather time.... thats gonna be a bank breaker :)

have fun, its worth it, dont short cut on equipment or training, at 100m you want the best

enjoy and don't forget about the price of helium, here in Dahab 100L = 6 euro... it adds up quick I see it everyday :)

I'm headed in that direction myself, so a breakdown of what I've paid for my kit:
Twinset (faber twin 12L steel cylinders): £250 (about $400), used
7l ali stage cylinder: £100 ($150) used
2xapeks ds4, 1xapeks atx40 (to complete twinset reg set): £320 ($500) new
Note: already had a hog second stage and spg
1xspg and 1x1m hose for stage: £60 ($110)
Note: I already owned 1xhog d-1 1st stage and spare hog 2nd stage
Halcyon explorer wing: £100 ($150) used
already had the backplate and harness
Already owned:
Drysuit: £600 ($1000)
12w Led canister torch: $750
fins: $100
hog reg set: $375
ali backplate: $55
mask x 2: £100 ($150)
weights: £20 ($35) used
dsmbx3: £140 ($200ish)
and probably another £500-£800 in stuff I forgot
courses are expensive as well, so is gas

I've probably spent more on stainless bolt-snaps, bungee and zip-ties alone; than the average recreational diver spends on equipment. LOL (no joke...)

A real tech diver doesn't use zip ties. :D
