Another bit of unsolicited advice. Buy the tanks you really want, even if you pay a few more dollars. I know you have been looking for that great deal but if you only plan to own a few tanks, make your purchase count.

I have the luxury of not being in any rush. I also just bought a house, so I really don't have the budget to buy steel tanks at the moment, it would have to be a can't pass up deal for me to pull the trigger. I got a pair of aluminum tanks for shore dives, what a convenience! I want the tanks that I buy to look like yours :) haha

Thanks for the advice!

Chris

Listen to WB2GLP, you gotta know the status of the special permits.

Also... no one mentioned it, but I'd wanna kock off the boots in order to get a full inspection of the cylinders. They look like they've been rode hard and out away wet.

Thanks. I turned him down, now he wants to throw in a new pair of Oakley O Rokr sunglasses. He doesn't get it, I don't want. Even if the sunglasses go for $500 on ebay, I haven't seen anyone bid that high.

For future reference, the first 2 tanks pictured are clearly Worthington X7 HP steel 100's. The 3rd tank (one with neck ring) is the only genesis tank, ((Still not worth $750 for all 3, IMO))

I've got a guy who wants to trade me some tanks. The item I have I'm trying to sell for $750. I'm willing to trade for a pair of steel 100's, but I'm not overly excited about the condition of these tanks. They have a current hydro/viz. Since I'm balking, he's thrown in a 3rd tank and all new valves.
Sounds like you have decided to pass on the deal. Good call. Four comments:

1. It appears from at least one photo that at least one cylinder is an X7 3442 psi cylinder. Are all (three) of them 3442 cylinders? Is the third one also a HP100?
2. Several posters have pointed out some of the differences between PST and Worthington cylinders on one hand, and Asahis. The differences are not necessarily good or bad. Some like the buoyancy / trim of Asahis, others don't (I don't). It is a matter of personal preference as much as anything.
3. I have no idea what you are trying to sell for $750, and whether your price is high, low or reasonable. So, whether a trade is or is not fair is impossible to judge. If I were considering buying these cylinders, I wouldn't pay more than $150 each. (I have paid ~$200 each for four PST HP100s over the past few years, and felt like that was good value. For me, these would not justify $200 each.) One cylinder appears to be in current hydro. One definitely isn't. Don't know about the third. The VIP stickers are irrelevant to your decision. Oakley sunglasses wouldn't mean anything to me as an incentive.
4. I don't see a lot of rust in the pictures. There may be a bit of a line right above the boot on (at least) one, and a tiny bit around one hydro stamp. That isn't necessarily a deal breaker. Obviously, the interior condition as well as the condition under the boot would influence the decision.

If you really want some steel 100s, offer the seller $150 each. See what happens. All he can do is say 'No'. Just like buying on eBay - you can get some good deals, but you have to be disciplined in bidding, and willing to walk away without hesitation.

Thanks you for the continued advice.
