Standard bp&w set up for me:
2 torches- one on each shoulder d ring secured with an inner tube ring
Octo- hose folded through shoulder d ring
Go pro (if carried) - secured to shoulder d ring with bolt snap. works out as pretty neutral with case and handle.
Knife - secured in sheath on waist belt
Shears - secured to opposite side on waist belt
Spg(if used) - clipped to waist d ring
DSMB/reel - secured to butt d ring

Piranha and Deep Sea Supply make a Butt Plate or "Side Mount Tail Plate" that attaches to the crotch strap just below the back of your BCD. I clip my safety sausage, spools and everything but my lights, z-knife and compass to it.

I try to keep it simple.

I have a bit of redundancy with an AI computer that also has a digital compass but still have a SPG and compass clipped off to my BC on a retractor on the left bottom d-ring. I have a coil lanyard to my camera rig on the left shoulder d-ring and my octo clipped off on the right shoulder d-ring. DSMB and finger spool on my right bottom d-ring. I have a light mounted to the top of my camera so don't carry a light during the day but for night dives, I carry a backup. I have a lame roll down pocket on my Ladyhawk BC which I never use except when I'm picking up trash that I find.

Man I am seeing a lot of gear here... A spare mask? The only time I ever lost a mask in the water was when I was rescuing some people in a flipped canoe. Here is what I bring:
A line cutter is attached to my integrated weight buckle on my BCD.
A small knife on the left buckle
A signal whistle on the BCD inflator/Air2 hose
A 300 lumen light, spool and SMB in the BCD pocket.
Compass on the right wrist
Computer/air gauge clipped to a retractor on the BCD
My video camera and a 1100 lumen lamp are mounted on a 9” pvc pipe dangling from a wrist lanyard (normally I tape the whole dive)

Wide or long? Could you post a picture?

I would not need any weights if I carried as many things on a dive as some people appear to! I must be doing something wrong the last 3,992 dives.

Exactly. At most I carry up to two additional items, a flashlight on most dives and a safety sausage on some dives. That's it. Never saw a need for anything else.

I'm not thinking I carry too much, but maybe? Seems [most] everything is used during most dives so maybe not?! We're new to all this, so I'm sure plenty will change as we continue to learn.
  • Compass on a retractor on left waste D-ring
  • Flashlight on a retractor on right chest D-ring
  • Knife w/cutter in sheath fixed to waste band on BCD
  • AI computer on right arm
  • SPG clipped under left arm to chest D-ring
  • Small Slate in left pocket (haven't used it, but just in case for now...)
  • DSMB w/finger spool under left wing in zippered netted bag (Zeagle Ranger LTD BCD has one on each side)
  • Whistle on left shoulder D-ring
My daughter's is the same setup except she also has a small camera on a right chest retractor on a D-ring.

Yes, very sophisticated, I know. An ergonomic grip wold be better... I’ll do that for my New Year’s Resolution.
Ah. That's a lot clearer now. My first mental image was a 9" wide pipe with the items going inside somehow.
