Hi Natasha!

We attend Gibi's every Tuesday night. It is Bonaire Talker's night. I can make arrangements for you for Gibi's if you would like. Let me know! He cooks every night but Wednesday.

His standard menu is all local food. The cost is 22,50 Naf (@$13.00 US) per person for the meal. Basically the way he does it is charge for everything (including drinks, beer, etc) then the bill is split by the number of people there. He asks that if you didn't drink beer or wine take a couple of bucks off, if you did drink, add a couple of bucks on. The average usually runs between $20 and $30 per person depending on how much you drink.

His basic menu is

Beef Stew, Goat Stew, Chicken Stew, Fried or grilled catch of the day, Fried Chicken leg (leg and thigh together). Fries, Funchi (pollenta) and rice are served family style. Sometimes he will a few more items such as green been stew, black bean soup, kadushi (cactus) soup and flan for desert.

Like I said let me know and I can arrange it.

Liz!
Thank you so much. We are at 32 divers now, and still growing. Do you know how many he can accommodate?
Also can we pick from the menu above or does he make all of that?

Natasha,

I am psyched! Glad to see that you are all over this restaurant thing. This is going to be most excellent!

Don't be afraid to eat where the locals eat.

We did well at any number of stands near the Divi Flamingo for breakfast, little meat pies and brutal coffee. Place called Maiky Snak.

One one edge of town there was a locals place that had cafeteria style goat stews and more. Yummy.

Out by the baseball fields, just past them, there was an open air place that let you pick your own goat.

Then there was a place in town that did Indonesian Rice Table. Is it still there? An epicurean rarity and wonderment.

Bonaire... some of the best diving and the best food, all at the same time!

LoL John. Let's face it.. well fed divers = happy divers! :eat

I'm hoping he can take our whole group for Monday night. Sounds like a great place to just relax and bond. But, he's going to need a lot of chairs and a ton of food.

Goat isn't my favorite. And most of us will be eating breakfast at the Plaza Resort. What else do you have up your sleeve? :)

You said top 3, but I thought of a couple others.

Zee Zicht across from Karels downtown.

And Chibi Chibi at the Divi.

If you take 32+ to Casablanca, better call and warn them. As much for your sake as theirs, it's kind of slow there. According to BT it's become so popular since they made the Scubadiving top 5 list that you need to make reservations now unless you want to eat really late. They relocated a few doors down this year also.

And I liked RumRunners at Capt' Don's, plus it's entertaining to watch the tarpon in the lights. My buddy wasn't as impressed. For something less expensive, there's the Pizza Temple there also.

I didn't know I liked goat until I had been to Bonaire.

Maybe like Lamb (which it doesn't taste anything like), it's an aquired taste thing.

Be sure to check out the Indonesian Rice Table. Eat in places that your mother would be afraid to go into. The worst it did for me is make my wetsuit shrink.

Also- be sure to meet "The Flamingo Bird Lady", she has a boat canvas shop and makes great indestructable mesh dive bags. Pay no mind to the "closed" sign on her gate.

What else do I have up my sleeve?

I don't know... Meow?

Enjoy Bonaire!

I understand Mangos has moved from the pool and out to the beach in a spot close to where the Green Parrot was. If you know where that is, you are a long time Bonaire fan.

Cool, that's a great spot. We were heavily bummed when Lenny took out the GP. It was one of our favorites.

Another vote for; It rains Fishes, Bobbie Jans, & Bistro de Paris. Its tough to pick just three though. ;)

Does the TC stand for traverse city? Which shop do you teach for?
