Hey Stone,I am not having any problems with my Valor now. I had my instructor try it and she agreed that if you turn your head just right some water comes in the exhaust. But only in that position. I am liking the "little" reg quite well thank you. I do find that it has more bubble interfernce than the larger Oasis. Probably because the exhaust is closer to my eyes. I don't consider it a problem. I would still like to dive an Omega to see how I felt about it myself. I think I would like it, but, I just gotta try before I buy something like that.

Glad to hear the wet breathing problem was not chronic. Exhaust valves (and their seats) on the Valor are easy to inspect and clean, and if you had a continuing problem with wet breathing, that would have been a good place to start troubleshooting.

Hi silverfish,

I'm familiar with the Omega, but have never dove one...but do own a large number of regulators, one of which is a Poseidon Odin.

I mention this as the Odin uses the same 'servo-assisted' design as the Omega, so I can comment on the design concept itself, even if I can't describe how the Omega exactly feels.

First of all, some diver's say a 'servo-assisted' design is an acquired taste.....but honestly I've been extremely pleased by my Odin, and have nothing but praise for it.

It's a very comfortable breather, and always provides the right amount of air I need.......some say such designs provide either too much air or not enough, but I've never experienced that feeling, it always provides exactly what I need without thinking about it.

I have attempted to 'stress test' it to see if I could induce some of the 'problems' and 'sensations' some divers have reported.

Some have complained about a 'fluttery' feeling during inhalations.....I never noticed this feeling during regular diving. I did do a 'panic' breathing exercise to see if I could over-breathe the reg (take a number of very deep fast inhalations/exhalations to see if the reg could keep up) and the Odin kept up with me 100%. Under this extreme condition I did feel a very slight 'wavering' during the inhalation, like the air flow fluctuated ever so slightly, but still plenty of air flowed.....barely noticeable, and mostly because I was deliberately searching for this 'sensation' as some divers have reported this behavior.......but again I've never noticed it during regular breathing.

I have been in situations where I was nervous and really exerting my self underwater, really burning through air, and no matter what the Odin keeps up with me, with no sign of air starvation, just breathe and don't think about it, no problems at all.

The bubbles are really routed off to the side well, so even stationary there are absolutely no bubbles in my face, which is pretty neat too!

I'm not sure about the Omega, but the Odin has only one 'adjustment' ..a " + / - " switch on the back of the 2nd stage...no switches or dials...so it's pretty simple.

Usually I put the 'octo' in the " - " position to stop any chance of free flows, and leave the primary 2nd stage in the " + " position, for maximum air flow.

I've practiced what it feels like to breathe from it with it in the " - " position, and you can still breathe from it just fine, but you can definitely tell the difference as there's significantly less air when it's in the " - " position.

The Odin is perceived as something of a tech regulator , and it is heavily used by the technical diving community, but I'm a new diver/not technical and have been completely comfortable with it, so don't be intimidated by that 'image'.......it's great for us 'civilians' too!

Hi Scubafanatic
When the servo assist works its wonderful!
I had an Oceanic Zeta that worked beautifully twice then developed a free-flow problem that was never resolved. I got a new one and it had that nasty "flutter" more like a fibration when you breathe in. Maybe it just needed a bit of adjustment but I decided I did'nt want to mess with this design anymore. I still remember those two dives with it when it worked and it sure is nice - almost like natural breathing.
I'm now in the market for a new reg. Tell me a little more about the Odin. Is the 1st stage a piston or diaphram. Is it rated for cold water. If you don't mind, how much did you pay? What about servicing?
So far, I'm leaning toward the Apeks ATX200 - it sounds like a good solid reg. (lots of people using Apeks). It's a little pricey for me but, hey, I've got two kids I could sell to the travelling circus!
:D

Hi barb,

I was just in the middle of typing my response to your questions about the Odin when my computer crashed and erased all my work! Arrrggggg..... :-)

I have a lot to tell you.......I promise I'll respond tomorrow night (7/11) as I'd love to tell you about the Odin....but it's well past my bedtime, so I don't have time to re type it tonight.......but I'll try it again Thursday night...so please bear with me a little longer. :-)

I'm patient - I can wait while you sleep your life away, ha, ha:out:

I'm sorry that you have to retype your info. but I do appreciate it and I'm waiting with bated breathk!
So far, the Apeks ATX200 is getting hotter in my mind. The final piece is - is there a store near me that sells them (although there's always Diveinn.com) but more importantly is there an authorized/experienced service tech. in my city or close by?
There is a LDS that sells Poseidon almost down the street from me. There is also a authorized tech. with a really good reputation near by so I'm still considering Poseidon - maybe cyclone? or odin/jetstream? not sure yet I'm going today to check them out.
