Hi silverfish,
I'm familiar with the Omega, but have never dove one...but do own a large number of regulators, one of which is a Poseidon Odin.
I mention this as the Odin uses the same 'servo-assisted' design as the Omega, so I can comment on the design concept itself, even if I can't describe how the Omega exactly feels.
First of all, some diver's say a 'servo-assisted' design is an acquired taste.....but honestly I've been extremely pleased by my Odin, and have nothing but praise for it.
It's a very comfortable breather, and always provides the right amount of air I need.......some say such designs provide either too much air or not enough, but I've never experienced that feeling, it always provides exactly what I need without thinking about it.
I have attempted to 'stress test' it to see if I could induce some of the 'problems' and 'sensations' some divers have reported.
Some have complained about a 'fluttery' feeling during inhalations.....I never noticed this feeling during regular diving. I did do a 'panic' breathing exercise to see if I could over-breathe the reg (take a number of very deep fast inhalations/exhalations to see if the reg could keep up) and the Odin kept up with me 100%. Under this extreme condition I did feel a very slight 'wavering' during the inhalation, like the air flow fluctuated ever so slightly, but still plenty of air flowed.....barely noticeable, and mostly because I was deliberately searching for this 'sensation' as some divers have reported this behavior.......but again I've never noticed it during regular breathing.
I have been in situations where I was nervous and really exerting my self underwater, really burning through air, and no matter what the Odin keeps up with me, with no sign of air starvation, just breathe and don't think about it, no problems at all.
The bubbles are really routed off to the side well, so even stationary there are absolutely no bubbles in my face, which is pretty neat too!
I'm not sure about the Omega, but the Odin has only one 'adjustment' ..a " + / - " switch on the back of the 2nd stage...no switches or dials...so it's pretty simple.
Usually I put the 'octo' in the " - " position to stop any chance of free flows, and leave the primary 2nd stage in the " + " position, for maximum air flow.
I've practiced what it feels like to breathe from it with it in the " - " position, and you can still breathe from it just fine, but you can definitely tell the difference as there's significantly less air when it's in the " - " position.
The Odin is perceived as something of a tech regulator , and it is heavily used by the technical diving community, but I'm a new diver/not technical and have been completely comfortable with it, so don't be intimidated by that 'image'.......it's great for us 'civilians' too!
