Hi... I am doing some preliminary planning for a group trip to Coz. There are going to be 6 of us and we were looking to rent a house. I found a few places online but was wondering if anyone here had any personal experiences or suggestions?

Welcome to Scubaboard! I have stayed in two houses in Cozumel. They are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Three divers stayed at Casa Tina in downtown San Miguel. See: http://www.cozumelhouserentals.com/ It was a good bang for the buck and we liked staying within walking distance of PLG and La Cocay. When my entire gamily went we stayed at Casa Gordon which is like having your oiwn staffed mansion. See: http://www.travelforadventure.com/casa.html There is definitely something for everyone on the island and we found we saved quite a bit of money and had more privacy with a house. Good luck!

We rented Villa Zara a couple of years ago. Here's a link to some pictures: http://discovermexico.com/nhotels/VillaZara/gallery.cfm

It's a cozy, 3/4 bedroom villa on the north side of town. Close to, but not on, the beach (about a 50 yd. walk). Quiet neighborhood. Not lux, but very clean, well kept and would comfortably sleep six. It went for $1200/week when we were there in April of 2001. Best to rent a car - it's at least a mile into town. A house rental surely beats most of the hotel deals if you have six going IMO.

Good luck!

My family rented Villa Francesca in downtown a few weeks ago. It's a great little villa with a pool, three bathrooms, three bedrooms (one bedroom has two standard beds) outdoor shower and rinse tank for gear. Full maid service every day except Sunday is provided and cook service is available. The neighborhood is on the poor side, but is within walking distance of the square. I would definately stay there again. For four of us I think they charged about $750 for 6 nights.

5 of us rented Casa Rosa a house www.islacozumel.net/homes/rosa.htm - 11k. Plenty of room and very clean. It was up or down or back (one of those) from the main square and we did have to rent a car, mostly to haul us around. The neatest thing was the building behind the house. It is a gated and locked area that you can wash and hang your dive gear everyday with no worries about it leaving unexpectedly. I think the lady's name that handles the rental is Lisa and she was very helpful about the Island. Oh and the A/C works great too.
