never stayed there, passed by it many times. booking trip staying at villablanca feb 10-13( quick weekend) any impressions or advice? did i see the french quarter was open? i booked casa del mar, but they changed their re-opening date and the villablanca was available for the same price. anyone going to be in coz the same time? i am making it a point to go see christi and sally while i'm there, thanks...terry

New to board, But, I will be staying at villablanca Feb 11 thru 19

I stayed at Villablanca in June. I would stay there again, but don't have high expectations. It was probably a truly great place to stay 30 or 40 years ago.
Now, its a little buggy, a little dirty, and there are no amenities. If you were driving across the US on a road trip, and stopped to pick a motel, you wouldn't pick the Villablanca! But you are going there to dive, not hang out at the hotel!
Prior to the Hurricanes, the shore diving was good there. We did night dives from the shore every night, and saw many octopus, eels, urchins, squid.
I don't know if Temptations restraunt on the water across the street is open yet. It looked pretty hammered in the pics that I have seen. Its a great place for a couple of drinks and some decent food at the end of the day.

Thanks Divedoggie. We're booked there Feb 15-20. I had to find someplace to stay after Casa del Mar pushed back their reopening and cancelled our reservation. Now I'm a bit concerned and thinking that I maybe I should keep looking. I got a good deal through Expedia that had to be prepaid.

The hotel told me last week that the pier area across the road has not been rebuilt yet. So, from what we saw going past there last month, I'd bet Temptations is also still ruble.

Thanks from me also Divedoggie. I picked Villablanca as a quick last minute replacement for Caribe Blu when they were full and I also prepaid. I guess I will go with low expectations and maybe they will be surpassed. I am glad that my wife is not going on this trip or I would really be scrambling for a last miniute replacement if she read your review.
Did you stay in the Standard or the Superior rooms?
Thanks again for the preview.

Firerescueguy, who are you diving with, and where are you from? We'll be there during the same time.

Scubawife,

It looks like we were in the same situation as yourself, We was supposed to be staying at Casa Del Mar and Diving with Del Mar Aquatics. But, with all of the last minute cancellations by Casa Del MAr I rebooked with Villablanca. I like the idea of convienance while on vacation so that is why we are planning to dive with Papa Hogs.

MT,
This is our second time getting cancelled at Casa del Mar. First was our trip in December, and now this trip. We'll be back again in Dec and maybe May, so I might try them again.

We dive with Living Underwater. When there were piers they'd pick us up at whatever hotel we were staying. And they take care of all our gear (even wetsuits), so it's still convenient.

We're from NY. If you see a tall guy in any sort of EMT t-shirt, carrying an underwater camera or video, it's probably my husband.
