Scubawife,
So is your husband an EMT? So who are you diving with since there evedently is not a pier at villablanca?

MT

We're diving with Living Underwater. In Dec we met the boat at the Caletta, and I believe that's what we'll be doing this time as well. I think I read that Papa Hogs is picking up their divers at what remains of their pier, so you should be fine.

Yes, my husband is an EMT. He does about 80 hrs/month. Where we live it's about 90% volunteer. They still have to do the full state certification program and the annual CME's and recertification. He'd like to do the DMT program and get involved with the local dive rescue team too.

I don't think so; there's nothing left of their pier. I was there at Caribe Blu a couple of weeks ago and I never saw any boat traffic at Villablanca. That's not to say that that's the way it will be for long; there are pier restorations going on everywhere. I just didn't see that they were started at Villablanca yet when I was there..

I go there at once a year and have stayed at Casa Del Mar and Hotel Cozumel. Sorry to hear your reservation got cancelled at Del Mar. It was really a noce hotel. We were just there in December the people are working really hard to put everything back together as quikcly as they can. Wilma really did a number on them. Only Hotel Barracuda and Hotel Cozumel were operational. I do however hope that you dive operations is Del Mar Aquatics. Jorge and his crew are the best! Have a Great Time!

scubanatic, we stayed at Hotel Cozumel in December. Got a good deal in Dec but for Feb it wasn't worth the rates I found. We'll try and book Casa del Mar for a trip later this year once they are actually reopened. We've heard so many good things and were looking forward to staying there. I've heard very mixed reviews about Villablanca so we're not expecting much. Hopefully it will be better then expected.

We were there Dec 13-16..maybe we saw each other...:)

I have heard alot of good things about the villablanca, But, the bad things are kindve making me a little nervous. My trip is for 9 Nights so really hope the good things will over shadow the bad ones. Since I have prepaid I guess we will see......

Villablanca is a budget hotel, and its amenities are like budget hotels everywhere. You won't get the "mint on the pillow" treatment, but you won't be paying for it, either. I've not stayed there, but I have visited a couple of times, and it didn't look any worse than, say, a Motel 6 or Days Inn in the States. Considering what's just outside the door, I'd class it a bit higher.

We have stayed the Villablana. It was okay. It was a no frills hotel. Wife and girls enjoyed the beach club across the street while I was diving. You are close to town and Taxis are easy to catch. I will say the breakfast was good. The Hog Town Cafe is/was next door. I dont know if it is still there or not. We have also stayed at the Hotel Cozumel and we enjoyed it. We did the AI. The food was average, but hey, who eats at a hotel with all the great places to eat down the street.

The Villa Blanca is Mike's pier and right now they lay claim to the shortest working pier on the island..that woulbe be Papa Hogs..most others are leaving from the Caleta...Yes there is boat trafic as Margaret had me move for one of their incomming boats.

The Villa Blanca is a nice pace to stay with a great view.....if you don't mind the taxi to towm or Caleta.

Ron, we went by Villablanca every day on our way from Hotel Cozumel to the Caletta, but I'm a really bad judge of distance. Is Villablanca to town walkable?
