never stayed there, passed by it many times. booking trip staying at villablanca feb 10-13( quick weekend) any impressions or advice? did i see the french quarter was open? i booked casa del mar, but they changed their re-opening date and the villablanca was available for the same price. anyone going to be in coz the same time? i am making it a point to go see christi and sally while i'm there, thanks...terry

We also got cancelled, again, at Casa del Mar. After way too much time online this weekend I think we'll be booking at Villablanca too. We'll be there Feb 15, so just miss you. A couple things that I couldn't find online were whether there's anyplace at Villablanca to have breakfast, and when they expect their pier to be rebuilt.

We were in Cozumel in December and the diving and island far exceeded our expectations based on the very mixed and conflicting info we'd found online. It will only continue to improve. Have a great time!

I had tried to book the Caribe Blu hotel for 1/21 - 1/28 but they were booked. I booked Villablanca instead. I will be diving with Papa Hogs which it right across the street using a temporary dock. I will be eating breakfast at the Hogtown Cafe which, I am told, adjoins the Villablanca.

Don't expect the Villa Blanca pier to be rebuilt by Feb 15. If you are diving with Papa Hogs, they have a temporary set-up...but if not diving with them, you most likely will not have a pier at Villa Blanca so you'lll have to load at the Caleta. You need to ask your dive op about this.

Of course, the pier situation COULD change. You should contact the hotel directly and ask them what their projection on the pier is. You could also contact Dive Paradise, as they own or at least have interest in that pier...not sure which.

For breakfast, the Hog Town cafe is right next door and has excellent breakfast.

Diver 88, French Quarter is not open yet, but it won't be much longer.

The Villablanca has a toll free # 1-888-790-5264 and maybe they can answer any further questions for you. They also have a website, http://www.villablanca.net/ , but it is not very specific.
I booked through www.Travelnotes.cc and the agent, Jidan, recommended the superior over the standard room as a very worthwhile upgrade.

Thanks for the info. Going to Caletta was no big deal in Dec, so that's not a problem.

Villablanca hasn't done a great job of updating their own website with post-Wilma reports like many others have. But, I'm sure a website isn't a priority when you have lots of work to do to get your business back up and running normally.

thanks everybody for your input, i didnt even think to look to see if they had a website... i may dive with deep blue, i started diving with deep blue some time ago because i had a cousin that worked there. they seem to be a pretty good operation and one of the divemasters was on the very first dive i ever did in cozumel way back in 92. thanks again everybody, i'm sure i'l think of other things to ask about before the trip. terry

We stayed at Villablanca over Thanksgiving. We were upgraded to the Villa, which was very nice. The pier was gone, and I don't believe that it's back up and running yet. We booked our diving with Dive Paradise, and they picked us up at the Hotel Cozumel pier. The hotel is nice, we didn't try Hogtown Cafe, but it is right next to the hotel and back open for business. I would recommend a rental car/scooter if you're staying here. It's too far to walk into town (for me at least!). We had a scooter for the week and had no problem using it to get our dive gear to the pier for pickup.

I did a trip report here, but not sure if I'm doing this right to attach the link....

diver88, I booked Villablanca today. The best rate I found for Feb was with Expedia. A "Superior Ocean View" room, with tax for 5 nts was $377! ($66/nt + tax) It does have to be prepaid, but $66/nt beats $110 booking with Villablanca direct. On the Expedia deal, if you cancel more then 7 days in advance there's a $25 penalty. Less then 7 days the penalty is one night. You can purchase a cancellation waiver for $14 when you book that allows you full refund for cancelling.
