anyone have any recommendation for a hotel on Provo?? need a room for two for 3 nights prior to boarding a live-aboard next May....thanks

We stayed at the Ports of Call Hotel after getting off the T&C Aggressor, see the link below.

It is not on the beach but it was clean and nice and it is close to restaurants. Previously it was a Comfort Suites but changed ownership several years ago. It is less expensive then some of the beachfront resorts.

But I haven't been back to Provo since before the Hurricane a few years ago so hopefully someone else will have more current information for you.

Ports of Call Resort – Ports of Call Resort – Website

Ports of Call is definitely the closest to the Turtle Cove marina, and just a short walk to Grace Bay Beach public access. Would be convenient if you wanted to do a few checkout dives beforehand, there are several shops in the area that leave from Turtle Cove as well.

If you want beachfront, there are many choices, but many run in the +$500 range per night. May is coming down from high season, but still not the cheapest time of year to travel. There are also many condos and even villas to rent.

Windsong is a nice place, with a great reef for snorkeling right out front. Also walkable to marina, restaurants etc. The Windsong Resort - Turks and Caicos Resorts - Caribbean Resort

We have stayed at Alexandra and Beach House, both boutique all inclusive options that we were very happy with. They also have a resort on the south east side of Providenciales, near the other marina.

Turks and Caicos Collection – All Inclusive Luxury Turks and Caicos Resorts

All depends on your budget and expectations!

TripAdvisor has a great T & C forum as well for more non-diving info.

Good suggestions!

The week before we got on the T&C Aggressor we stayed in a suite with a full kitchen at the Royal West Indies resort and it was on the beach and very nice. Not cheap but we were able to prepare some of our meals and that saved money because eating out a lot can get very expensive on Provo. It had an ensuite laundry so we could pack clean clothes before boarding the Aggressor.

The RWIs have some studio suites that are less expensive and that I think would work well for a short stay. You could prepare simple breakfast and lunch meals and then go out for dinner.

Grace Bay Beach is one of the most spectacular beaches in the Caribbean, nicer than 7 mile on Grand Cayman IMO, so it would be great if you could take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy it, see the link below:

@queennyac which LOB are you taking? The Aggressor leaves from Turtle Cove Marina but the Explorer departs from the Caicos Marina which is distant from Grace Bay Beach and you may need to rent a car.

We found it very helpful to rent a car during our stays on Provo and the Grace Bay Car Rental was very accommodating. Most car rental agencies wanted us to pick up and drop off the car at the airport but that wasn't convenient because we were arriving by air but then boarding a boat.

Grace Bay Car Rentals allowed us to pick up the car at the airport and then leave it at the marina for later pick-up. They also had a car waiting for us at the marina when we returned and we were able to leave it at the airport upon departure, see the link below:

Grace Bay Car Rentals – Turks & Caicos

FYI, they drive on the left in the T&Cs.

I forgot that the liveaboards depart from different marinas, so that could factor in- thanks for pointing that out Kathy

Agreed that Grace Bay is incredible- I like that there is pristine white sand and turquoise water, but also a very good snorkeling reef, and the entire length is walkable and public. Also no high rises or chain hotels, and extremely clean.

Ports o Call. Right across the driveway is Dive Provo if you need last minute dive stuff. T&C is great !!!

Even if the OP is departing from the Caicos Marina on the Explorer, I still think that Grace Bay is the area to stay in while on Provo. We saw that marina while we were driving the island and it is a distant and more commercial, industrial facility. There's not much around there for tourists - at least there wasn't when we were there.

@queennyac I didn't mean to suggest that you absolutely have to rent a car. Since you will only be on the island for 3 days, if you stay in the Grace Bay area, you could take a taxi from the airport and to the marina and walk to nearby restaurants and stores. We enjoyed having a car to explore the island but we had more time on land.

The LOB provider can give you advice about transportation and accomodations.

Have a great trip whatever you decide to do!
