Going back to dive there in Feb 05, stayed there when it was called the Costa Club, and was wondering if anyone had any cuurent tips and rating? I want to do the Devils Throat, Punta Sur, Santa Rosa Wall and Maricaibo but I'll be traveling with a new diver that has only 25 dives. Will they let her do it, I wonder?

 I certainly hope not! A reptuble operator will not, but then - some there would. Be a friend and prevent that. When I did Devils Throat, the less experienced were lead by a different guide around the reef; that'd okay.

Thsi is in the wrong forum, though; I will ask a Mod to move it to Cozumel. :D

That's about what I thought, since my friend was less experienced. That would mean I can't do it either then? Wish I could do it and then she go with another group around it. Was the throat cool? How deep and long is the throat?

Hope I can find that other forum where this thread went

I'd do it twice. You come out around 130 feet. What operator are you using.

I don't know which area you accessed it in. I know 6 or 8 ways to find it. It started in Intros, got moved to Cozumel forum.

I have my UserCP set in my computer's Favorites, so I can review Threads I've subscribed to with new activity first. Then, I go to the general forum index - and I watched you long enough to know that you were there at 11:19 Texas time, 12:19 NYC. Glad you found it okay.

You'll learn your way around. :D

Just got back from Hotel Cozumel. I spoke with people who used Dive Paradise and you have to prove that you are an experienced diver to do Devil's Throat and pay more money as well. We used Dive with Martin and they did not charge any extra money for farther places. Also, while I did not do the Devil's Throat, we did another dive on Punta Sur with a shorter swim-through that came out at 135ft. Perhaps that is an option?

Devil's Throat is a longer, steeper incline and you have to use lights. This one, you do not.

We stayed at Hotel Cozumel for a week in October. Part of the package we got was all-inclusive. We used Dive with Martin for diving. The hotel was nice and clean, with good maid service. Air conditioning was central, and made just enough white noise to sleep without being loud. Never ran out of hot water. The main pool is just like it was, but they have small Hotel Cozumel signs placed here and there that look out of place. I suppose they want to make sure you know it changed hands again! The food was nothing to write home about. We did the breakfast buffet every morning before the dive boat picked us up, and then lunch after we got back. We drank our share of the beer on tap while there also. We ate dinner at the hotel the first night, which conviced us to walk downtown and hit some of our old favorites down there for dinner the rest of the week. Aside from the convenience of having breakfast, lunch, and beer at your fingertips, the all-inclusive may not be the best idea. It seemed that as the week went on, it got busier in the restaurant, and the busier it got, the more spotty the service. Waiters would walk right by and not even acknowledge your presence, and things like coffe and syrup would run out and not be replaced until someone asked. All that said, I would stay there again because I do like the location, and it is a pretty comforable place to relax when not diving. We spent a lot of time around the beach club on the other side of the street in the small pool relaxing with a beer, and snorkeling along the shoreline there.

By prove you are a experienced diver does that mean they observe you on dives? Will your AOW card allow you a try without jumping through hoops? Is it worth all the fuss?

This is about how I remember it, OK to go back to, but not rave about. The price is right, and the location, which is why I'm returing. It's not the hotel but the diving. I already have the all inclusive package so I'm stuck with that so-so food. Don't feel like trerking into town each night. I don't drink so I wonder if I would get a reduction in the all inclusive price? Did you use the lockers in front of the dive shop there by the dock? Did you have to give a key deposit?

Thanks for your input. It makes me feel a bit more confident that it'll be ok
