Just got back my Worthington HP100 from hydro and notice that the galvanizing is chipped away at the date stamp ... anything I need to know/do to the tank before I use it in salt water ?

Notice two of the hydro dates on the right tank.

My hydro station and I use ink pens over the stamping. I use black to cover the old hydro date and yellow to highlight the newest date. The paint is very thin so the stamping is always very visible.

It is not uncommon for the stamp to cut the galvanizing a bit. A little bit of rust may occur where the galvanizing was compromised, but it will not travel or ever get under the galvanizing (like it would on a painted tank). Putting a little bit of paint over the numbers will prevent any rust even forming on that little spot. And in that location the paint will never get scratched exposing the bare metal again.

The ink pens are also very handy to mark your name, etc. on the tanks and other stuff.

thank you, thats a handy idea , I'll do that
as for marking my tank, ... .. back when it was brand new

I used ZRC Galvilite galvanizing compound (I bought a few 12 oz. spray cans a while back to touch up my hydro stamps.)

I use an epoxy coating that you can get from car repair shops. Two coats of that then you can paint it what ever colour the rest of your tank is and still see the stamp. Never corrode.

Yeah the simplest thing to use is some nail polish. It is actually pretty good paint, very water proof, thin so itt gets in the crevices, and you put 2-3 coats on it before it starts to rust and you are good for a year and then you can take 30 seconds and do another coat. It also helps the fill station operator to see the new stamp, I use nail polish to paint an X over the old hydro stamps and a circle around the lastest one.

My 95s were stamped at the neck and also chipped the galv. Sort of worried about whether they'll pass next inspection (due to position).
