Yeah I'm new to diving :)
Well welcome to Scubaboard!! You'll find lots of great information here, and lots of great people. And a few boneheads, probably....but the good information and people more than make up for it!

Since you're new to the board, stop the the introduction section and say hi. Also check out your regional area. I've been a Kelp Diver/Rocky Mountain Oyster/Conch head and it's been great! Everywhere I have been I've met Scubaboarders for diving and socializing

As you take continuing ed, you'll learn about PP02 and why it becomes toxic at depth. I believe you hit the toxic range at 218 feet or something? (Don't ask me to do math..it's early) When you get a few dives under your belt, look into Nitrox. It's a safer way to dive and lets you enjoy more bottomtime. I took the ANDI CSU 2 class where you certify to dive mixes up to a 50% oxygen mix. Good luck!

I wonder why nobody has more info about this. From a previous post, another diver talked to the victim the day before the dive, and the video commentary (clueless as it sounds) says he had a buddy there. If that was true, someone knows whether this guy was attempting a bounce or at least experienced something unplanned...

From a comment on the Youtube vid:

"I was in Dahab when this happened a few years back. The video was filmed by a young Russian scuba instructor who wanted to film and dive through the arch at 60m. Apparently he was overweighted then got narced because of the depth and lost all sense of orientation at the end. Very sad, his memorial plate at the entrance of the blue hole is from his mother. p.s. unlikely he cried "help" as a Russian speaker, it is a technical noise"

Sounds like he wasn't trying a bounce at all, which IMO makes it even stranger that he didn't try to abort earlier.

I'll dive with most anyone within reason. If they say they are a DM or instructor I take extra precautions. IMHO they are some of the worst divers around.

There are exceptions.

I'm a DM and soon to be instructor ;)
Wanna dive?

Here's a video of the dsicovery of the dead diver and recovery of his camera:

Just to clarify,

This is a compilition of various vdo's already discussed in this link.

For good measure, the body at the end of the clip, is not the Russian guy who died, the one with the camera on his head, two different divers, two different stories.

Where is any footage about the recovery of his camera? Are you referring to the two pictures of somebody being pulled out of the water and lying on a boat? Are these pictures the same person and are these pictures the Russian guy that has been discussed in this thread?

Cerich,

Guess this summs it pretty much up.

Being an Instructor Trainer, whenever I'm teaching the Deep Dive Specialty (and some other Specs as well) and emphasize all the safety aspects involved, a lot of times I get the feeling that my experience and advise goes in one ear and exits the other the next moment.

It seems they want to invent the wheel again, over and over. Mainly younger candidates indeed.
Perhaps posts like this will make some reconsider, or so we hope.
