Team bailout at 100m is stupid?
Yes team BO is ALWAYS stupid. Cave or otherwise.

AL80s are basically useless as SM tanks in a cave. Way too small, the butts are crazy buoyant even with a light trimix in them like 21/35 nevermind with 15/55, 12/65, or 10/70+

Excellent specialist divers.

I still don’t understand why there’s a move to 'hybridise' a CCR with OC and DIR for general diving.
Because long hoses are proven work, with another CCR buddy, or in a group with OC divers. Handing off bailouts (which might be plugged into other CCR things like offboard dil or a BOV) is a mess.

I'm surprised how much stupid has shown up in this thread. It went from a decent idea to some really dumb ideas very quickly. Idk why I'm still shocked at some of the scary philosophies some people subscriibe to.

Nothing wrong with looking at how Excellent specialist divers do things.

I don't see it as hybridising CCR, OC, & DIR. I look at it as an effective way to dive CCR with mixed teams while being able to be both self sufficient and able to assist if an incident occurs.

And what is your protocol for deploying a longhose from under your loop and you’re not breathing from?

Is it quicker than deploying your deep bailout hose?

Precisely the reason why a BOV has to be well thought through especially regarding quick-connectors

Which risk are you mitigating with a CCR + longhose that deploying a bailout hose doesn’t ?

What’s wrong with diving in mixed 'teams' with a bailout?

Does a mixed "team" include people who dive with no redundancy (i.e. single tank)?

and during that time some people dive to 100m
a group of 3 with 3 configurations...
Yes, it is not a mix team but why would you want a mix team there and will a GUE configuration be good?

Again a specialist application which requires specialist solutions.

It’s team bailout at 100m. You can’t carry enough yourself. Planning is complex and may include safety divers. Overhead diving would include staged bailout and deco cylinders. Deep wrecks would be team orders on a 'must return to shot' with lazy shot + trapeze.

A 100m/330' dive is not a run of the mill dive, very few people have ever been that deep.

BTW using 17 litre steel cylinders would really screw your buoyancy on CCR especially if they’re removable.

For a larf, how many cylinders would one person need for bailout on a 100m/330' dive with a sensible bottom time of, say, 30 mins?

4 x ali80s? That’s without mitigating a CO2 hit.

I carry all of my own, and my primary bailout at that depth, in a cave, is a pair of 19L bottles, though even at shallow depths I usually use them. I have never had any buoyancy issues with them.

For shits and giggles
5min CO2 hit at 100m breathing 2cfm. 5min*2cfm*11ata=110cf or ~3200L of gas just to get back into some semblance of sanity.

30min bottom time at that depth requires a helluva lot more than 4x al80's just for deco....

Assume they’re sidemounted similar to the video above. Also that your weighting is based upon having those two attached.

Which other cylinders do you carry aside from those two on a deep dive (or are those two a deep bailout and deco gas)?

Slightly surprised you’re not using a bailout rebreather. Would seem to be the solution to the gas problem at depth.

19's are bottom mix only, deco bottles are standard AL80's, but you can't do a 30min dive to 300ft/100m on 3x al80s for deco, you need at least 4+bottom bailout.

BO breathers are useful, but not for a hypercapnic hit so you still need to carry that gas to deal with the hypercapnia.

Hypercapnia - it's like all bets are off and mitigation strategies are so extreme for a small -- but deadly -- risk.
