My Legend has died. Looking for replacement. A must is ease of breathing at depth and in multiple positions as I do video work. I was looking at the reviews and was intrigued with the second level Atomic and the new Legend but a my rescue instructor who is a techie was very 'pro HOG'. I'm just not familiar with the brand. Any thoughts or feedback would be great.

Lots of folks are distributing perfectly adequate regulators. Just make sure you have a reliable source for parts and service before you buy.

BTW, how does a regulator die??

What happened to it?

I will take it and give it a burial.

is it for doubles or no? if not and it is open water it doesn't really matter, just show him how it is like the scubapro mk25 and if he doesn't accept that than, i can't help you

Huh?

jcpiota: If you look closely at the new HOG reg (esp the 1st stage), then look closely at some tried and true regs used at all levels of diving (Dive Rite, Salvo, Oxycheq....) you'll note some clear similarities.... coincidence? I think not :D

HOG appears to market very good quality equipment at reasonable prices. I'm using their singles wing and think it is great.

As awap mentioned, just be sure you are clear about parts availability and service before you buy... but any tech should be able to service this reg if they can get the parts.

Ask your rescue instructor how he likes his.... better, ask if you could borrow it for a dive.... if it makes your heart to "pitter patter", go for it!

Good luck and Best Wishes.

It's a pretty standard nice quality reg that should be common (not difficult to work on or get parts) and is similar to regs distributed by a number of different companies under different brand names.

But....you should buy the reg that you want, not the reg your instructor likes.

Try it, along with some others, and see what you like.

JC, I can assure you that your Legend is not dead. You may need a better reg doctor but short of cutting it with a torch or running over it with a bulldozer, there is little you can do to hurt the reg.
The Dive Rite is an Apex clone and my bet is the HOG is too. I would not suggest the HOG or any other private label reg unless you intend to do service work yourself. Nothing wrong with them- private labels, esp the Apex clones but service and parts (unless you are willing to substitute parts- which most dive shops will not do for liability reasons) may get hard to come by if they don't do well. For service and parts reasons both now and years later, I personally would shy away from new or little know brands.

Let a friend borrow it and found it in the rinse tank with dust cover off! Since then...first breath....slow leak! Have had it serviced 3 times. No improvement.

Have seen the 'guts' of both and they look like an exact match.

Not for doubles yet. I want to do video and only need is just to 'get where the subject is. Love the idea of the self sufficient diver. Video tends to make you a loner
