Yup, it is pretty close to the beach, maybe 10-15 feet deep on a sandy bottom and very broken up.

Can I shore dive it? What is a good way to locate it? How's the dive?

Ive dove it many times and there are 2 Hercules wrecks

1 way off Charleston and 1 off Westerly beach.

Here is the one off Westerly and Ill be glad to dive it with you anytime when the ocean calms down and the tide is slack due to a strong longshore current.

One of us can park at the breachway and we'll split a parking fee if you wnat to dive during beach hours.

Here is a picture from my new shore diving book Im working on.

Nice diagram. I've been wanting to dive it all summer so any day you would like to go I'm definitely up for it.

I find the best time is after Labor Day but is the opp arises erlier Ill send you a mesage.

The best stradegy I like is to plant a flag on the wreck and explore it.

That diagram is right on. Somewhere along that stretch of beach are the remains of the Summer(or Sumner), Elk and John C Wyman, the barges that she was towing.

Is that what I see on Google Earth east of the tug wreck. Im now getting more interested as I thouht the Herc was alone.

Thanks Sean for the additional info.

PS: I hope they never take down that concession stand as its a crucial land mark.

Just mark that spot on the beach in a hand-held GPS. ;)
