I have been trying to find an orgizination to volunteer with to help out with the disaster. This may not be the right section but I figured it was worth a shot. I contacted Docs without borders and have only recieved an automatic reply. The Red Cross is very hard to work with coming in. They just blow off calls to offer assistance, except cash of course. Is anyone aware of someone I can contact?
Below is a brief list of skills I can offer. Thanks for any help!

20 year Paramedic
Firefighter
EOD (bomb squad, ordnance avoidance may be a big issue there)
rescue tech ( high angle, ice, confined space)
heavy equipment operator
Diver, of course
HAZMAT managment specialist

I can't help you with your specific question but I just want say this:

You GO, Brother! Just make it count!

Just get yourself there. With your qualifications you don't need to organize it before you go. In Sri Lanka entire mine-fields have been moved/shuffled by the water and hospitals are dire need of help. You'll be there for 6 months before you sleep next. They need you. You want to help. So just do it!

The problem Im having is getting through the first layer. People call and want to help but don't have anything real to offer except a warm body so they are told to donate cash. I founded a DMAT many years ago and could hook up with one of them but they are for use inside the US only.

I tried the links provided but they all want cash, which is fine. Id like to do something more. If anyone can give me a lead it would be a big help.

Anyone in the international medical community out there?

Other than diving and beach clean-up experience I don't think I have any real skills to contribute. Instead I'm sending a donation to a locally-organized relief fund on Koh Phi Phi (Thailand) where I enjoyed several weeks of good diving and comraderie a few years ago. If anyone is interested in doing the same, PM me and I'll give you the contact info.

How about body recovery? Im sure there would be lots of gratefull people if there loved ones remains were found.
Im still looking. I heard one of the hospital ships thats in San Diego maybe? is preparing to depart and are looking for creative ways to staff it. Any info on this or any other orgization thats helping out would be helpfull. Thanks.

Try the NYPD. With WTC experience they can probably head you in the right direction without the red tape. Also we had a group of Doc's locally who went over there.Contact "Firefighters without boundries" also.
