Hi all,

I got the option between buying the following single tank systems:

[1] Halcyon 30# Eclipse w/SS BP and Active Control Ballast 20 for $700US; or,

[2] OMS 30# Bladder w/SS BP, IQ Pack Harness, and Compact Quick Weight Dump Pockets for $750US. ($690 with only single shoulder release Harness system)

I will be diving warm waters in a 5mm wetsuit (I know, I know too much...but it's
legacy gear).

I'm counting on all you diving gurus to please help me decide!

Thanks in advance for all your guidance!

How much weight do you normally dive? I wear a 5mil suit, AL80, SS plate and H Pioneer and I use no weight at all. You might want to consider a weighted STA over the ACB pockets.

Yeah, I will probably use a weighted STA as well; however, from recent experience I will probably need still need about 20pds.

Have you got an opinion for me about which of my two options is better?:06:

Well, tough call but I would have to say go with the Halcyon! It is an outstanding piece of equipment and believe it to be of higher quality than the OMS!

Hi,
Having just made the switch to oms bp and sta, my research bore out that allthough a lot of people swear by the oms IQ pack, it has the same drawback as the diverite transpack. It is a comprimise, between the two styles jacket vs. bp system. being a comprimise it can not be all things to all situations. As i am on my way to doubles I did not want a comprimise.

Hi Aquamutt,

I'm a little puzzled by your choices cus the halcyon is a no frills setup while the OMS setup is with the iq pack makes it look almost like a regular back inflate system?

Also, the prices are through the roof! $700 is almost 30% more than a comparable setup from DSS or Oxycheq. For weight pockets, you could easily go for a couple of XSScuba pockets.

All in all with either of those setups you are only paying something in the region of $500. With the recent discount of Oxycheq wings to something like $200 or under, if feel it's more than what I want to spend... my 2 cents.

I dive the Eclipse, and it is awsome, I use no weight, nor the weighted STA...but thats just me. Anyways the Eclipse def. especially if it is less then the OMS!

I use the #30 Eclipse and love it. IMO you can't go wrong with the Halcyon. To me it just seemed more streamlined and well-put-together than the OMS or the diverite did.
