Rene,
With comments like those you are going to do fine in the DIY forum. :)
The only specialty tool I can think of for the MK-10/109 is a bullet tool, shoot me your mailing address in a PM and I will mail you one. It's a small price to pay for the laughs I got from your comments .
Welcome to DIY

Herman,

Thank you very much for your sense of humor and kindness, herman! I got to say, although I'm very new to the forum I'm starting to feel very much at home. I'll have to poke around in the DIY forums to see what other things I can get into. I am considering seeing if I can do some DIYing for a BCD. I don't even know what they are called correctly but I've gathered that instead of getting a traditional jacket style BCD some folks 'roll their own' with something along the lines of a backplate, bladder, and some other gizmos. I need to learn about that so I can figure out if that's the path for me.

The possible issue is finding an appropriate tech near where I live. There are no dive shops in the nearest big town (very small city) that are Scubapro dealers. There is one in Syracuse (ca. 50 miles away) and the next closest ones are 3 hours away. Are there any techs/shops that accept mailed in repairs that any of you would recommend? Perhaps I can send this equipment out for service. I'd rather send it to someone that knows and understands this old gear than deal with folks that just want me to replace 'that old thing' with something they'd sell me.

I'm actually pretty handy with tools and repairs (cars, plumbing, etc.), but I realize that this is all foreign to me so there's no way I'd do this on my own as a first project. I'd much rather DIY something that isn't as critical (e.g., life support!) and does not require specialized equipment.
Two that you might contact:

ScubaToys - Scuba Regulator Repair - Scuba Annual Service

IDK if Scubtoys works on older ScubaPro gear. They are an SP dealer so should be able to get parts if they're still available.

www.scubaregulatorrepair.com is closer to you - part of Long Island Scuba - but I don't think they repair ScubaPro.

An overhul by Glynn Palmer at Malibu Scuba Repair (other coast) might set it up good for a number of yers, and DIY could take it from there....

Rene,

Scubatoys rebuilt a 109 for me this winter. And they'll do it without the lecture you'll get from the LDS about how you should buy a new reg or you'll die.

They aren't hard to work on but I wanted it for a trip to Bonaire and I needed parts. I got the impression that ScubaPro was discouraging techs from working on Mark IX's anymore though. Maybe someone else knows what that's all about. I assume they'll work on your Mark X no problem.

Fixed:)

I guess you already know that not many people are aware of the existence of nemes for both genders :)

Merci Elan!

I am so sorry to be imposing some more on you very kind folks, but I am totally mystified  as to why I can't get to the http://www.frogkick.dk/ website no matter what I've tried.

I've tried reaching the site many times today, from computers at work, home and even at a cafe, and for the life of me, I can't get anywhere past the top level of the domain (i.e., http://www.frogkick.dk ). I've even made sure firewalls were off, no proxies, etc. The error I keep getting is "Bad response. The server or forwarder response doesn't look like HTTP."

I am wondering if something is going on with DNS from New York (where I am) to wherever the frogkick website is served. I'm thinking this because Awap was able to get there today, yet I can't.

So I would like to ask a favor and see if is someone :angel2: could please be so kind as to download the appropriate manua/schematic for the Scubapro 109 for me from
<http://www.frogkick.dk/manuals/> ? and then please send me a pm so I can give you my email address.

I hope this isn't wearing out the welcome mat too soon!

René

Just checked, no issue from Switzerland.

But then, if it's schematics you're after, there're plenty right here on SB, including annotated ones from Master couv Himself.
The MK10 is here: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=71760&d=1265600210
The 109/156 is here: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=72230&d=1266428895
If your 156 has been upgraded with the current "s-wing" poppet, you may want to take a look at the G250 here: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=73888&d=1269276945

Actually, there're plenty good material in the DIY/Repair section. I learned a lot just searching through the section; possibly more than both "bibles" combined.

Thank you Zung!

I have no idea why I still can't get onto the Frogkick site but the links you sent are a great help. Even better was reminding me to do some research on here. Now that I've seen the schematics for my regulator and 2nd stage, I'm feeling comfortable about opening up the 2nd stage to see what's going on in there.

I think I'll be able to do so tonight or Friday!

Ha! That's too funny! :rofl3:

I'm just hoping I won't make a :trainwreck: out of it

But, I'm a pretty patient guy and, I've even learned to take digital pics of stuff when I take things apart so I don't have to worry my tired, old brain. :cool2:
