Dee:
I'm quite sure that although not every person in the Houston/Galveston area had personal experiences with H. Alicia, with the help of the disaster plans that are in place everyone will have more than an idea of what to expect. The last thing we need is to set off a panic situation, that can be detrimental in lots of ways.

I know Katrina is still fresh in everyone's mind but let's not blow this out of proportion just yet.
Okee Dokee - people do tell me that I worry much too much, at least when they're not telling me how reckless I am. See Reminder in my Sig

I was in Houston for Alicia. It was a cat 3. The greatest concern that I have is that Houston is full of evacuees from N.O. If Rita gets to a cat 4 as projected all of the shelters we just emptyed are probably going to get reopened again as people come north.

The tropical storm that hit a few years ago did more damage to Houston and Galveston than Alicia did.

It's going to be an interesting end of the week. ON the positive side... we could use the rain

The fellow from AccuWeather who's so good at forecasting these things says this storm could set records for low pressure in the gulf, and be as big as Katrina.
Looks like this really could be a big one.
We're prayin' for y'all.
If you're anywhere on the coast from Galveston to Aransas Pass, Uncle Ricky advises you get outa' there. Now.

Rick, we're about 50 miles inland from Galveston.

We went to Wally World this evening to flesh out the pantry and pick up a few things. That place was nuts! It was strange to see some isles were almost totally empty, yet others were filled to the gills. Of course no plain old water was to be seen. The camping dept. was also cleaned out. Fights and arguments in the isles....we finally decided we could make do with what we had and left. Took 20 minutes to get out of the parking lot!

I have no doubt this is gonna be a bad one. Even if it hits south of us we're on the dirty side of it. But I can't believe the near panic we witnessed tonight. We overheard stories of things 'they' had heard on TV, everything from expect no electricity for up to a month to Baytown would be wiped off the map. Of course everything you hear on the TV is true, right? :11: Oy Vey!

We have to evacuate my father-in-law from the nursing home in Pasadena tomorrow by noon. The rest of the week is going to be interesting.

I would imagine by the time she reaches here in the Metroplex, she will be down to a tropical depression. Here's hoping, anyway... :51:

I do believe Rick you were the first one on the board to realize that Katrina was going to as bad as it was. No offense but I sure hope you are wrong this time.

Looks like I'll be pulling hurricane duty at the plant. They are evacuating the nursing home Mother is in in Baytown. Crosby is even further north than Highlands/ Baytown so Hubby and Mom-in-Law will ride it out at the house. I remeber Alicia all to well. With this one if I didn't have to be at the plant Mom-in-Law and I would head for west Texas. I hear there is a good dive spot out there. Stubborn Hubby could stay home if he wished.

I sure hope I'm wrong too. But just in case, it's a good time to visit the hill country :)

Our forecasters say we may get 70mph here but I would be surprised as far inland as we are but I guess we will see..
